Gotcha. Yeah i just did the seal kit and nothing more. From what I could see all looked good. Nothing super worn.
I wish it was only just leaking. Driving our cruiser was like steering an ocean liner. You really had to turn the wheel a lot to get it to generally go where you wanted it to... scary. hahaha

Finally replaced the heater core! And it only took three full attempts: 1st time after putting the entire thing back together I realized I missed a plug and it was pinned behind where it should be - tore it all out. 2nd time got it all back together and found out that it leaked at the notorious pipe connection - tore it all out, took the box to a shop to braze. They ended up not brazing it but instead used 2 o-rings on each side and also cleaned everything really well. I was not happy, but figured I could just hook up the box, start her up and see if it leaked before putting everything back together. 3rd time was the charm! No leaks, and more heat than I will ever need living on the CA coast. Time to head up to the mountains! First attempt took me ~10 hours, by the 3rd attempt I could do the whole job in less than 2 hours.

Before pic:
Freshening up the grill and mirrors it has been 5 years since being blacked out. Trying a new paint Krylon Dual super bond (paint and primer in one). Prepped the surface with Duplicolor grease & wax remover.

Finally finished the damn exhaust. Good is that it is done and I don't have to worry about it. Bad is that it is done and has really quieted down the exhaust, to the point that I don't really hear it anymore. I actually miss the throaty roar. And now there is a shiny piece or metal that is showing below the truck, but that wont last long since I will be doing some dirt/mud hunting soon!!

Installed the steering box and currently waiting on the 32mm socket to install the pitman arm. Currently painting the steering shaft protector and installing the new u-joint in the upper shaft. Then the steering refresh will be all done! :bounce:

Nice! Fwiw, I bought a 32mm socket from Lowe's recently when I refreshed my steering box. Took about 10 minutes to get there and back. Torqued it on the bench vise, I was surprised how easy it was to get to 130ft/lb.

Its actually shadow grey, the lighting just made it look black for some reason. Definitely darker than the old faded/broken one.
I just got the socket in the mail (Prime! ). I should have just checked with you though, not sure I'll ever use it again. hahaha

Good to know hat the steering clamshell is still available!!! Scared to ask how much!!!
Yeah, I was shocked and happy to find out it was still available! It was around $100 for the whole thing. Mine was broken (the screw terminals) and it rattled a lot which drove me crazy. Plus, since the last one lasted 28 years, it was a worthwhile investment to me :)

Chase. You going to start a build thread already? Sounds like your going to have a very nice 62 at the end of it. You might as well let the rest of us get jealous or inspired.

Installed a fresh set of knock-off 555 TRE's... The last set was probably 10 years old, also knock-off.

I bought the parts from Ruffstuff to make my own links out of thick DOM but forgot the drag link uses a different thread size AND no place to get good metal on the weekend around here so I just reused the old rods.. I'll redo it when o find weld-in M21 bungs and jam nuts.. Anyone got a good source?

Ha! You give me too much credit. I'll start one soon, but it wont be nearly as nice as a lot of the rigs on here. Definitely taking the slow build route.
