Finally got my front end knuckles rebuilt, new dba rotors and pads, new hubs, rebuilt steering gear box, new intermediate shaft, new add a leaf to the front for heavy, new greaseable shackles and bushings all around , new tie rods and relay rods, degreased front axle and painted, added new front harrop elocker and rebuilt third member, installed LR gas tank with sender. Took me one day, almost every weekend since Feb.. And I'm still need to upgrade the power booster and master cylinder......slowly getting there still.....

Great job! That looks soooo clean! I just ordered some of those DBA rotors. What pads did you end up going with?
 
That is fresh! Took u a few good months! Wow, no wonder it takes us years to get there trucks back to par...
 
Yeah it tends to take me three times as long to do a simple job. Got some time off of work to finish this part and I miss driving it.
I also installed some longfield chromoly gun drilled front axles which gave me some problems because the po did not align the axles on the last knuckle job. Which was a real pita, but I finally got it done. I figured since I was in there might as well and be done with it.
I ended up using the EBC 6000 series green stuff for the front pads. I thought I'd check them out for the first time. They seem to work well but I still have a spongy brake pedal. It'll be a few months but I plan on adding a new 80 booster, master cyl. , and rebuilt 80fzj rear axle.
As far as cleaning up all that grease and dirt off the axle housing,it took me some time. I degreased , primered/rust inhibitor , and painted.
During that time I also installed the rear hatch glass, tint , and kaymar bumper.
 
Thanks J, if I waited a few more weeks I would of saved a couple of hundys on both lockers, ( off of you). I still need to run the wiring harness to the 80 series switch and run the rear harness for the fzj axle. Hoping I can get all this done before the end of the year.:meh:

Thanks I'll check those out! So the brakes are spongy? Did you stick with stock front calipers or did you go the 4Runner route?
 
red66toy, I had the 4runner caliper conversion done a couple of years ago. It works well but not a real difference imho. I think when the booster and master are replaced, it will help with a more firmer pedal. Every little bit of upgrade I can get to help with braking, I'll take due to heavier loads and a v8. Cheers

Oh good to know, thanks. I am sticking with rebuilt stock calipers so I was curious if you had the spongy brakes with those. Better braking is always a worthwhile goal on these heavy beasts! I hope my work looks half as clean as yours. :cheers:
 
I also went boostcontroller.com. I wish I could remember how much of what size but there are other threads here that mention that. But in addition to making some minor bling on an otherwise drab engine bay they sure are easier to see when you need to work on them. Post 1076 on best mods under $50 from a guy that slipped red colored silicon line over his dipstick tube, making it much easier to see. I got to go do that yet, it was a good idea, maybe I'll try white if they have it. Makes the black cat easier to spot as well!
