The previous owner of my 4Runner had some kind of weird 'mouse' controller for an auxiliary MP3 player or something, and it left an ugly hole in one of the dummy switches on the center console. I took the opportunity to wire in a Blue Sea marine grade dual USB outlet.

I also did the overhead interior PFran LED light swap, plus back-up light.

@DanKunz a few questions on the nomad valve body. Which one did you go with and where did you source it, I noticed on the Australian site, it doesn't list the v8 as an option for the Prado. Secondly, what was the main impetus for the upgrade? How was the install? Finally, how do you like it?
Thanks!
The Nomad HD Valve Body is being brought in through @wardharris at Crusier Bros. I am the prototype install for both that and the LRA aux tank. The tank was mocked up for the GX470 and then fabbed in Australia, and shipping back next week. The VB was installed and some electronics needed to be sorted out.

The main benefit of the VB:
- Shift pattern changes to allow for better use of the 4.7 power band
- WAY better pressures to allow for crisp, clean shifting and less hunting on hills
- Lower temps in the AT as it will have higher pressures to reduce the wear and use of ATF pressure
- The torque lock out lets me select a physical connection vs. using ATF, so, for example: Driving up a long hill in 4 (not D) I can lock the TC and have the fluid stay cool and drive direct. Or, if I am offroad and going down hill, I can lock the TC and let the engine braking work just like a manual and have no AT rush or slip.

Thanks for the mention, Dan. Georg @orangefj45 and I are proud to support the GX community. At Cruiser Brothers, we have tried to find solutions for needs - "parts that get you home" and both of these components - tanks and trannys - seemed to fit the bill. Glad we could help.

As 'yall know, the GX community is a small but enthusiatic slice of the overall market - approx. 3% of the Toyota SUV/truck market since 2000 (see below) and only 1/4 the size of the "sibling" community of 4th and 5th Gen 4Runners. GX are not always understood or well supported, but that is changing :)

We are taking reservations for the GX 470 tank ($1,595) and taking orders for the HD Nomad Valve Body Kit ($1,295) and TC Lock Up Kit ($595). Not on the website yet, but folks can call with questions at 1-800-224-7801

Thanks, I appreciate that. I'm holding on to the stock hitch in case we ever decide to tow something, and until we can afford an aftermarket bumper it will just be used to hold up the spare and a gas tank. I was unsure about the fit when I bought it, but everything lined up well enough!
I'd imagine if it uses all (I think) 6 bolt holes it's fine for the factory pintle's 3,000# rating.
props for 2" gain.

Calling CVJ tomorrow for details/pricing - had never heard of them, thx for the post!

Rad!
My Napa says he can get OEM axles with different boots (I think inners) for the joint that typically fails.... Might be worth an inquiry. . . .

Beef Basin camping for mother's day weekend, spontanious return via Canyonlands and Elephant Hil (with a 4" 8-, my stocker 07 and an '18 stocker taco, 4dr, longbed and a driver who's never done trails!). FUN!

Ordered tires from Discount Tire, Cooper ST Maxx in a 255/80/17. My Dick Cepeks fun country are only at 6/32” and have about 45k miles on them, but I need trailer tires and a second spare for my trip up to Tuktoyaktuk.

When is this happening? My gf is planning the final leg of her canoe trip for summer 2020 and will be ending there - I am in the pre-planning phase (i.e. the "I need to build a trailer for when I go pick her up" part of planning, lol).

starting out the first week of July this year.
Got the new tires because; a)trailer needs tires, same size & b)I was told most of the Dempster Highway is shale rock and that can easily cut tires

Tuktoyaktuk, NWT? That will be quite the road trip!

Not from "today", so technically cheating, but we unplugged for the weekend:

Road to Tuktoyaktuk was opened around last Sept/Oct, so its times to go put some toes in the Arctic. LOL

Around the same timeframe as me, just two years earlier, haha. Have fun and take lots of pics!

Anxious to hear about the VB - it was on my to-do-list when I had my 80 but ultimately didn't happen. It's crossed my mind with the GX, good to see these are being made available. Work on a Group Buy since you have their attention! :)
