Glad to hear, you're getting started. What's going to be your plan of attack. Body or running gear first?

Good Question!!!

I'm planning on going to work on the body first, mostly because I don't know which way I want to take the running gear.

At times, I think about keeping the stock drivetrain (with minimal upgrades) and other times I think about dropping in a 350, 60 axles, and a major lift with some beefy tires. ???

So, I’ll start with the body and see where that takes me. I know I should have a vision before I start, but I can’t seem to make up my mind.

Any thoughts?

To me, body work is a painful thought, that's why I bought a rust free body. Might want to take it on first, then if you burn out, you haven't spent alot of money on the running gear. Not too uplifting, I know, but something to think about.

Any thoughts?

start with one thing. if it's close to running, get it running. even f you're wrenching, it's nice to do it on a running rig. (easier to move it around)

if you plan on body work, get that done next. pointless to create a soa monster if the body will fall off on the first train tracks.

from there, determine if you want to go v8 or no, since how your axles are set up on a soa will be affected by driveline angles created when you put in a v8. (see my "another chapter in piggie's life' thread to see how the engine and it's placement will affect everything in the long run)

finally, soa and wider axles at the same time.

I need to find me a beer store. Since moving to CO, I didn't realize until recently that the beer I'd been drinking was 3.2!!! (from the grocery store)

sounds very familiar:lol: pighead found that out the hard way too

Took the door lock mechanism out of my driver side door, swapped it for one in slightly newer condition from a spare door. Door now closes solidly on the first try. Took the passenger door panel off and put an old piece of window track rubber in the aft channel, eliminated another pesky rattle. While both door panels are off, I'm replacing the front door speakers.

Played with ways to make the gauge dash pad go back to its original shape Si I can actually see the gauges. May have found something that world. Will post pics if it works out.

Country crock 1 lb 8 oz tubs are the perfect size and contour to match the gauge holes.

That would be funny. Someone looks at the thread and wonder why we are asking you has the country crock tubs and when can we borrow them.

I have one of those tubs too, but it is the larger size. I store the leftovers from a gernaded LockRight from my front axle in it. Don't have the heart to bury it, yet........

Almost done!

Completed install of Ranger overdrive and mini-truck power steering and miscellaneous cleanup of PO SBC install. Still have to modify transmission cover and do a few minor finishing up tasks. Love the power steering, which was a very easy bolt in using the Iron Pig shock tower mount. Was hard to turn initially, but pulling the connecting shaft between the box and column and servicing the two u-joints (apparently for the first time in 38 years) made a world of difference. Overdrive is a little noisy but I can live with that in exchange for 27% reduction in highway rpms.

Glad I'm not the only one with a noisy overdrive... although at 75mph... I can't hear anything so I just turn up the stereo.
I have found that fancy gear oil in the OD does quiet it down. Can't remember the name of the stuff now. Is yours a Ranger 3? Mine is.

Believe mine might be a Ranger II...build date was 1988. Let me know what worked for you with the gear oil...was going to try Mobil 1 75-140. Put in conventional 80-90 with the install.

Would you mind snapping a couple pics of the Iron Pig powersteering mount?
