Took head to rebuild shop but lo and behold there was a crack. Went home and yanked another head from a block I got from Hugh Heifer..........here's hoping for better results next go around. Good news?? Pistons look pretty good.
Pulled the manifolds yesterday and waiting on my remflex. Bought some steel to make some more shackles. Also got the broken manifold bolt out.....Whew!
put on the rebuilt fj60 backing plates and reassembled the rear with an aussie.

The shackles I thought were going to be a pain, taking the load off the sprigs so they don't snap your head or hand off. You can do it in your driveway, but man, how nice is a lift and screw jacks.
While I had the lift, I also went a head and replaced my hub gaskets and siliconed them to prevent any water intrusion....I'm not sure if this is recommended or not, but seemed like a great idea since my wheel bearing went out and were full of chocolate colored grease.
I also used POR15 on the floor to help eliminate and prevent rust.

Took other head to rebuild shop---no visible cracks so fingers crossed and on to magnafluxing

Are you sure that is the outer race? Just asking because I fell for the same thing. Thought the sleeve in the crankshaft was a race and tried to remove it until I realized otherwise.

Did you replace the axle seals while you were in there (pics don't indicate)?
The grease gets nasty and weeps out when gear oil escapes past the inner axle seal.
You probably know that, just trying to help a brother out!
Ya I'm pretty sure. I've only taken out the inner race and the bearings. I can feel the groove where the bearings reside too. I've tried to make a pry type device, but I'm scared I'll damage the crank.

yeah, I did that when I did the wheel bearings a month ago....I didn't have the gaskets at that time....

Yesterday I was getting some serious scream out of the rear diff...so I checked it out. She was leaking gear oil like a fat girl eats cake. Turns out the retaining nut had backed damn near all the way off. So I replaced the seal and tightened that bugger down and set the "lock" on it. Then changed all my fuses out. Today its a new tail gate handle and really diving into my tail light issue.

I would dig in and make sure your shims are 0-k.

well installed a push button for my air horn. trying to figure out how to fix my line lock for the e brake?
