Worked on a couple projects. Needed to tighten up a rattle on the rear vent windows. Pulled all the interior rear trim just to get at two nuts. Passenger side was pretty loose. Driver side wasn't too bad. Followed this thread Mystery squeak solved! Cargo window loose.

While everything was pulled out, I made an addition to my rear cargo deck. Been trying to figure out a better water dispensing solution than having to pull out water bricks each time. Had an old scepter water can and found an old thread about using a pump sprayer top that fits the scepter lid threads. I made a small box to mount it. Also used one of the car seat mounting points with a climbing anchor to secure it with a ratchet strap.

Had an insert made with a 3d printer to mount a Blue Sea 12v outlet in the third row ashtray.

I discovered that I am a bad Land Cruiser owner. Started to replace front brake discs and decided to just do a front axle reseal. Damaged spindles, beat up upper trunion carrier on the machined side. One of the trunion shims looked like Jaws from the 70's James Bond movies chewed on it. Cleaned the birfs tonight to find the cages chipped on both sides. I guess I'm on my way to having a brand new front axle.

Also, don't price OEM birfs if you have a weak heart. :D

Part of me is thinking of selling it. It’s entirely too nice/original/low mileage to beat up off road. The other part of me says that’s stupid and just enjoy farting around town in it and getting thumbs up all the time from old folks.

even though I have never been much of a fan of the 60 series, I would keep that one

took the 40 to the CSC meet

drove the LX around town shopping for parts

wheeled the 80 in The Rolls today

found the most annoying rattle in the 80: loose speaker on the passenger side in the dash

in the LX managed to fit a modern cell phone holder onto an existing ball from a late-1990s satellite radio holder - apparently the whole device-mounting industry has settled on larger balls by now  --- in order to make the holder grip the smaller ball tightly, I had to invent incentives to the cinch screw thread . . . :hillbilly:

installed a new CB antenna quick disconnect on the 40 - the old one had been damaged when I borrowed my antenna to someone for a diagnostic test . . .

made a 4-wheel deflation/inflation system where the entire process is controlled from one valve - tested it today while wheeling the 80 . . .

based entirely on feel (no stop clock running): airing down seemed to take about the same time as with the El Cheapo Stauns off Amazon, but longer if I were to use my one good set of real Stauns (the fake ones all seem to get out of 'tune' real fast)

airing up seemed amazingly fast - Michael reported the same for the system he built for his Blazer (slightly different routing, different compression fittings)

not convinced yet that the $8 Cord Storage Reel is going to be the final solution for the air hose . . .

I'll do some more testing and then report with more detail . . .

Changed the oil in the transfer case of my GX470.

Removed dealer installed pin stripes and got to see the trucks original color !

Does doing something stupid count?

took out the rear ARB locker switch from the 80 in which the nighttime illuminator had failed (first world problems ) - new switch went in within 15 minutes

got a rubber sheet at Ace Hardware and cut new strips that buffer the hood in the cowl in the 40 - the ones I had installed 15 years ago had gotten hard, and cracked, so three of them had fallen out over the past year

did I mention I am in the process of prepping the 80 and the LX for a ~3000 miles tour about a month from now . . .

I replaced some vacuum lines and the two hoses that run from the charcoal canister to their respective locations. As far as vacuum lines that got replaced, the fuel pressure regulator, 2 that come off some connector on the top of the manifold, the hose that comes around the distributor from the PEEP Air (?). I might have missed a few but eventually, I want to replace all the vacuum lines but at $2.00+ a foot it will be sometime before it gets done.

I have been having a misfire and am hoping that replacing some of the vacuum lines might help with the situation. The plugs, wires cap and the rotor should be good as they were all new when I had the HG done.

Finally after almost two years I bought a speedo cable from SOR. Going to try and install this weekend. Fingers crossed that the connectors match up with my gear box and the dash gauges...
Just got mine in and I was geeking out all week

I am also planning on painting the roof of my 40 and I have been looking into using some hollow ultra-low-density glass microspheres as an additive in the paint, used to reduce the rate of heat transfer.
Has anyone done this?

Rear left window not working. Window would not roll down when using driver window master switch or rear window switch. I thought I had broken wires between driver door and kick panel. Very disappointed to find out there was no broken wire in the bundle.

Removed motor and regulator assembly from rear door. Tested the motor with no window, the motor turned in both directions with no problem. It turned out the window was sticky. I gave the window a hard pull to free it from sticky substance. I reset the motor limit switch, reinstalled everything. The window rolls up/down now.

If you had a 1970 40 then you would not have to deal with all those frilly things like wire bundles, power windows and door panel molding...
