Thanks for showing me a new extraction technique!
Finished the install of the Sumo 10% under drive kit to compensate for the 33 inch tires and an overhaul of the TC. Paired with the upgraded brake booster and Dobinson MRR’s we are now keeping pace with Ferraris and rally cars.
Some lightbar action. 
Drove the heart transplanted 79 home today. It runs well. There are some shakes and rattles to sort out, plus a list of fix ups to do for the season. Tomorrow I'll get the headache rack on and bed steps on. I'm hoping to drive it regularly for a couple weeks before putting the camper back in to make sure it is ready.
My new plate came in too (really it's a wanna be since it is a Frankenstein, and doesn't have an FT, but close enough for me)

Love that Michigan has gone back to the retro plates being an option. The one with the Mackinaw bridge has been the plate for nearly 30 years.

I drove abit and had a rapidly flashing left turn signal.....bulb checked out....it was the ground wire on the bulb socket....wedgied the wire back in contact applied some electrical goop and Voila! Bob's yer Uncle! took about 15 minutes and 2 beers,
1) remove 3 phillips head screws, pull out tailight assembly - open beer #1
2) scratch chin (bulb/socket/assembly ) looks brand new
'cause it basically is!)
3) poke at ground wire on bulb socket with Stihl chainsaw screw driver (tiny little thing)
4) apply dielectric grease
5) Test - open beer #2
6) reinstall taillight assembly
.....reminds me that I need to assemble a 24 Volt bulb kit......

Replaced my valve guide seals, second time this week. Must not have got one full seated the first time. Gave them a tap tap with a small hammer this time.
Happy to say I now have a leak-free, non-smoking 1fzfe, for atleast a few days. Attempt 1 took about 8 hrs, but I got it down to 4.5 this round.
This crouching/ sometimes belly board is a necessity for the job.

I am a total 1fz fan boy, but sadly, the valve seals just can't match the durability of the rest of the engine (as long as it never overheats).
Certainly not an exclusive problem to toyota or any other engine.
Quite a project, but gratifying at every startup NOT seeing the little cloud of blue smoke! Nice work

Can someone explain this to me like a noob mechanic?
i'm surprised you didnt have to open at least a 3rd beer when you remembered those werent phillips heads and had to grab the JIS driver

I was thinking the same, but Raptor liner, color matched sprayed with the really fine setting
Although the plastic bed liners probably protect the bed, they are slick and most cargo will shift around if not secured. A textured finish is the way to go.

Just saying that the little valve seals that slide over the valve stem don't hang in there as long (or half as long) as a 1FZ engine does before it needs a rebuild. They do an awful lot of work in their lifetime. In their defense, I can say with experience that the Toyota valve stem seal lasts a lot longer than aftermarket (FEL PRO) seals.
Or have to open a 3rd beer because of the extra exertion needed to lean on a phillips screwdriver to keep it from camming out on a jis screw!i'm surprised you didnt have to open at least a 3rd beer when you remembered those werent phillips heads and had to grab the JIS driver
