Thanks man. I wouldn't have guessed that much on the repair panel cost. I was hoping I might get lucky and hear they were perhaps 1/4 that price and would fit the BJ73 frame and I could go about repairing. At some point it will be time to tackle this and I'll be in the market for a windshield frame. Right now other things are priority. .........On a steel body repair note for anyone who knows out there: I recently successfully welded stainless steel to mild steel using mild steel welding wire and straight argon gas.......I think I will find some scrap stainless sheet metal (old sinks, apliances etc.) for patch panels when I do rust repair..
I regularly weld 304 stainless parts to mild steel at work, using ER70S-6 wire and C25 gas. Obviously the corrosion resistance of the weld area will be effected, but not a big issue for something that will be coated. The parts I weld are all powder coated except the turned threads on the ends of the stainless components.

I tested out a cluster housing meant for the transparent type gauges with a metal face MPH dial. As shown, it does fit properly, but the lighting was as expected. Completely dark MPH dial while everything else lit up as it should.

So, not even enough light “bleed over” to partially illuminate the inner mph ring?

So what you're saying is those who use miles per hour are completely in the dark?

Or maybe that only applies to those of us that use feet, inches, celsius and kms?

No. I just can't use a 1993+ cluster housing for metal faces. The bulbs are in the wrong places. Looking for a 1992 or older cluster housing now out of a HZJ77.

You Canadians don't need to worry about MPH lol....

Stopped by our local “Tractor Supply” today. 😊

Drove to kids baseball games and errands. Stopped by my buddies to see his new fj62 project and had to get a pic of the sweet lineup!

Cool! Where is this magical spot?
Pretty neat! Old train tunnel I take it?
It's the Boulder Tunnel, a RR tunnel completed in 1893 located just outside the ghost town of Wickes, MT. The tunnel is 6145ft long and straight as an arrow, standing at one end you can see a tiny pinhole of light that is the other end. Originally built to service the silver smelter in Wickes.
