This weekend marked the completion of all my hub work - including rebuilding the front knuckles. With the rear wheels off, I was finally able to install my new old-stock Toyota mudguards. They were tricky to source - about 6 months ago the parts broker in Japan was getting ready to send me only the passenger side (I politely told them I'll wait until they have both).

When I bought the truck, it was missing the most rearward portion of the fender flares... Hence the reason why I opted for this style of mudguard. Any ideas on what to do with the space in-between?

You may want to look into 4x4engineering from Japan. I have some 77 specific stuff ordered from them for my 77 since I plan to change out the rear bumper. But their product may not work with those new mudflaps of yours without some modification.

If you want to run mudflaps I would look new or used for the correct model , the one you have now are for base model cruisers without flares

I agree, but don't forget the part about my flares missing the rear portion (what the model-correct mudflaps attach to) . That's the struggle!

That part gets covered by the mudflap so either make a metal bracket or get creative with fiberglass .

Yep, I think some fabrication will be inevitable. Also, I’m missing a rear bumper! Getting a kit welded together soon so that should help to square things up as well.

Nice, thanks for the pic! Good to reference. I actually intended on going for those mud flaps first, as they're meant for the truck, but they have been really tricky to find new! Might be worth tracking down some used ones though... Would just need to install some kind of brace and/or extension for the flap's fastening point up top

This week, I had the HJ75 at Valley Hybrids/Cruiser Bros for a few days while I was cleaning up the HDJ81 to sell it and had Georg and his team diagnose my nonfunctional glow screen. This is an Aussie 12ht swap in a HJ75, so it is 12v and uses the single line glow screen. The guys put a Summit starter relay in, a 12v line to the battery, and a push-button momentary switch on the left side of the steering wheel.

Initially, they thought the screen was missing another power cable and didn't think it would work as-is but the 12v screens only have one power line. They didn't want to try it out but I gave it a go this morning. We live at 7,000' and it gets down to 35º in the summer at night. Usually, when I start it in the morning there's a massive noxious cloud of white smoke as the engine chugs. I have to give it some fuel to get it warmed up. It's an ordeal.

Their initial install had the power cable under the metal washer (which just caused sparks when ignited), but all the photos I found here on Mud showed the 12v line under the black insulator. This morning, I moved the 12v line under the insulator and ran the glow screen for 10 seconds and it cranked right up. No white smoke, no hard start. Just a small puff of black smoke from the direct injection. This was the last piece to the puzzle and I can't be more pleased with the install.

EDIT: I see people replied to this already.... apologies. ;)

I just bought the exact set from Megazip.net for $45ish + shipping. FWIW. They make a mud flap for 70s with fenders and without. You have the style for "w/o". The OGPN was "76607-90K00" but it's been replaced by 76607-60290 for the w/o fenders.

Yes, all correct information. My struggle to find a source for rear mudguards meant for models WITH flares persists. Finding the ones you indicated above was easy, so that's why I went ahead and grabbed them.
