I finally finished body mounts for my 75 on 80 series frame. It’s a big relief to finish this stage of the build.

Not worth making a new thread over but am wondering if anyone knows how to remove this (if it came on your JDM cruiser)? I have trying to figure it out but feel like I am going to break something. It is like some device used for tolls in Japan.

Hello,

An overnight soak in WD-40 can help to soften the double sided tape/adhesive before attempting removal.

Not exactly "today," but a couple of weeks ago, we locked our Troopy into a container in Walvis Bay, Namibia, to be shipped to the U.S. It should arrive in Arizona mid-August. Looking forward to getting it registered here and fixing a few issues introduced by bad Aussie mechanics, before shipping it off somewhere else.

Replaced the wire on the fan resistor. Couldn’t find a replacement because I’m in Nigeria. Seemed like other fixes use a massive resistor you have to attach somewhere else but I thought I would try just replacing with a heater element wire. There was a sample pack of kanthal wire on Amazon that had the gauges of the original, so I just wound some sections on some markers and pens to duplicate the winding, butchered a soldering job, and JB welded it to duplicate what appeared to be vibration dampening. I’m sure there is something I don’t know about soldering kanthal or maybe kanthal wire idea is short lived but it’s at least taken a full day on low fan. Definitely the low got hot when I tried it outside the duct as it’s the highest resistance and smallest wire, but I’m hoping the air from the fan would keep it cool enough to give some longevity. That wire is rated for high temps so might be ok. Some before and after pics.

I am amazed the JB Weld held up to the heat.
Good job!

The small coil had tiny pieces that smoked at first because it was the first one I glued so the consistency was too runny and dropped on the coil, but after burning the tiny pieces it seemed to stop. If I were doing it again, and in the US, I would try to find some ceramic type slurry or glue or something which must exist. I was actually also a little surprised it worked! Would be nice to know the exact resistance of the new coils as I was guessing. Sooo awesome to have back the nice slow flow of AC.

Update: Just a clarifier in case anyone else tried this, the smallest coil only heated up on one side for a half an inch or less. If I were doing this again I would make sure I knew the exact resistance for each coil as I’m sure that the wire size matches what it’s rated for so if it’s too long it probably likely to burn up and too short will give you too high a fan speed. I wonder if someone who has a new one could post the resistance for each coil.

McMaster Carr company does indeed sell ceramic-based glue.

European Union but I can't make out which country.

Pretty certain that's the rig of @HZJ78. I got an up close and personal look at it when we tried storing it in my garage. He was headed to Alaska after he picked it up several weeks ago.

Went on quite the overland adventure. Vast endless fields similar to the outback, not a soul in sight...just me and my trusty land cruiser tackling the great openness, man and machine becoming one, traversing solo in nature, conquering all in the spirit of wanderlust adventure.

Or just driving to work and posing in the wheat field next to my place.

Drove 40 minutes to nearest auto paint store.
Guy at the counter could not find Toyota paint code 21M (No it is not a blue by Izusu)

Drove another 7 minutes in traffic to the other shop.
They mixed me up a rattle can of the right color.

I am not sure where to do it and I don't use facebook or any other kind of social media so I will just say it here. Wanted to give a big shout-out to @SteveJackson for helping me find a HZJ77 and working with me to make a deal on it. It was a pretty painless process compared to my previous experiences.
