What camp shower and toilet are you using?

I'm glad I found this topic.
I was always curious to find out how people going to TnS deal with toilet issues. I guess there is nothing built for this purpose on the beach.
Where do you dispose all the waste?

There's outhouses but they get kind of gross. There's cold water showers for the surfers at the entrances to the beach... if I'm solo I just deal with it. Or jump in the ocean. mrs surfpig is joining us this year, so I'm bringing some amenities.

If you're using the wag bags, just dispose of them with your regular trash. The wag bags dry everything up and there is no smell.
Wife and kids use our foldable all the time when we are out, and typically just a dig a hole and bury it as there are no requirements around here to pack out. A public beach would be a different story though.

Not in all cases no. We bought ours as it was a requirement for Rubithon. I was very apprehensive at first as I'd never even considered having to literally "pack out" what you pack in. But that was quickly dissipated as they are very easy and clean to use.

Pett toilet like pictured above here since an '06 trip to DV.

Used to own one of those spring loaded pop up enclosures that really would pop right open. I HATED that thing. Even with practice I had 'issues' closing the damn thing! I wouldn't wish one of those things on my worst enemy.

I can take 24hr without a shower, the other business worries me.
My wife won't even consider sleeping in anything other than a proper bed inside a real room with a real shower and a real toilet.

A hotel room close by would MAYBE sweeten the deal for her.

In a more realistic way, probably my son and I would be able to rough it out for one night. He's not even 10 yet.

I've been using the "luggable loo" for years and as far as I'm concerned it can't be beat. I buy the biodegradable bags that you use in the foldable toilet to line the bucket. I keep the bags, T.P. my pee can, my kerosene lamp and fuel and anything else that will fit in the bucket when packing to save on space.

We are thinking about the luggable loo as well. Are you saying these bags for the Ozark Trail foldable will work in the 5 gal bucket for luggable loo? Thanks!

Qty of 6 for $10 is certainly a whole lot less expensive than the 'official' PETT toilet version that I think is now running $4ish apiece!

I know this request is like 4 months old, but I got this, from Walmart.com back in late December (2015) for my ROF Baja trip. Used it at one campsite - Bahia de los Angeles. Bathroom side works great with the Ozark (or any portable) folding toilet and wagbags. Shower side is convenient, but you need to make sure you use the provided solar shower support strap and fill with sufficient amount of water. Need to let sun warm the water...1-2 hrs at least - maybe longer, depending on strength of sun's rays. It's gravity fed and needs to be near the roof so you don't have to stoop to shower. Reviews complained that shower mount would rip or tear out, but if you're careful it works. Last but not least, shelter needs to have the rain fly on with tent pegs and cords securely anchored if you have any wind. Baja in January this year was very windy....Would recommend getting sand stakes (long & wide) to replace puny supplied stakes. Also setting up in wind will require at least 2 adults. I would have set it up at more camp sites if it wasn't so windy. I'm talking 20 - 30 mph constant with 40+ gusts. It would be great for in the woods where you're more sheltered from the wind. And every other camper in the vicinity will at least want to look at it - if not asking to use it - if other facilities not available.

Having owned and used several types of shower my vote goes to Nemo Helio Pressure Shower. The winning points are price, reliability, very small size, water conservation, use anywhere, and water temperature control. Also great dual use in a camp kitchen for dishes, washing off salt water, and general hygiene.

Outback Porta-Privy Pros - Quick easy set up, removable floor, great quality, tall, set up for showers, comes with sand bags and stakes for set up anywhere.

Portable camping toilets - Not a fan of any but one needs to do what one needs to do...

That would work great to replace the dismal solar shower provided in the Ozark Trail 2-Room shelter. Actually, that would improve the set up bigtime! Gonna keep that in mind.

I have a Thetford Porta Potti 260. It's the smallest one they make so it doesn't take up a ton of space in the bed of my pickup. I like it because it separates top (clean water tank/pump) and bottom (black water tank) and the bottom unit has a swivel dump neck to dump into a toilet. For $75 it's not a bad deal.

Thanks for this thread and all the info here. This isn't something I have had to worry about before but 2 of my girls are old enough to go with me on some longer trips now and I need to get something for the side of the trail.

My plan is the Reliance Fold-To-Go, some wag bags (or the Ozarks from Walmart posted earlier), and a cheap pop-up shelter.

Not many people like the pop-up style tents but for a quick side of the road potty stop they seem ideal. For an overnight stay where we would setup the toilet and leave it for multiple uses, I would certainly want something with more structure and that can support a shower but setup time and space are more important for 5 minute potty breaks on the side of the trail. I can just hold the tent up if it is too windy when they are in there.

Unless you're 8' tall, that aint gonna work. Also be more trouble than it's worth. My experience has been, women either like camping or they don't. Most of the one's that don't, even hate pit toilets. If they don't like going behind a bush (sometimes ya gotta), they'll loathe the camping experience, because private bathrooms just aint part of nature. With all due respect, I'm sure you're at least aware of all this, you just need to mull it over and discuss it with your girls & wife. Women love conveniences, but camping is all about roughing it. RVing maybe more to their liking. I love my RTT & camping, but at my age my Lance camper with it's self contained bathroom looks really attractive at times....lol.

After perusing this thread, I have to say how lucky I am that my woman has no issue with using a cat hole. Yes, we have a Roadshower and can use Reststop 2's when needed. We get to go all sorts of places and be together like we like to.
BTW, I will buy Reststop product because buying at walmart means you are paying for your purchases twice. Once to make the Walton's rich and the second time to pay for the welfare of it's employees through your taxes.
