I use a PETT. For those who haven't met me in person (i.e. 99% of you), let me make it clear that you won't find me shopping in the petite section of the department store...if you catch my drift...
I've never had a problem with my PETT failing while in use. The initial outlay might sting a bit, but for years of use in harsh conditions, it's well worth the few extra dollars spent.
I also have a luggable loo...which I purchased before I got the PETT. It works very well too, but it's size is a minor deterrent - it's basically a tallish bucket (slightly taller than a 5 gallon plastic bucket) with a toilet seat, but if that's not a problem for you, it works just as well and IMO, is very sturdy.

I also have the Outback Porta Privy mentioned by Phil above. It's nice as well.

I'm taking our stuff for the second time this weekend and I will report back on how well everything worked.

What do you guys do with the waste and where do you dispose of it? Cat hole?

I use recyclable, disposable ready bags, it makes your waste solid ( guess it works like cat litter ) and odor control .. you can toss in your trasharoo no problem.

And then what?
Out of the trasharoo, into the...

Into the trash bin at home. Wagbags, etc. make this human waste disposable in any trash can headed for the landfill.

It depends on where you're camping. BLM land has a "pack it in, pack it out" rule, so it must be brought out with you. I believe National Forests let you bury it, but please make sure the hole is deep enough that it won't get washed away from a storm. That's just gross.

Well we ended up camping with my parents and their trailer so this stuff never came out. Maybe next time I head up I can use everything.

toilet: made my own similar to camping hack

1. Costco dry laudry detergent bucket, empty (of course): Rectangular shape packs better than round (bucket) shape. Bonus: top is resealable air tight

2. Pipe insulation: around the rim for a removable toilet seat. shape traps the insulation to rim of bucket (like camping hack)

3. Kitty litter: put some into kitchen trash bag, don't fill, but enough for anticipated......to be taken from for each....this is the virgin kitty litter resevoir

3. Kitchen trash bag within another kitchen trash bag, primed with minimal amount of kitty litter.

4. shock cord: enough to go around outside of bucket.

5. Orange/grapefriut peel (as used from your expo meal stash).

6. 1/2 roll flatened toilet paper roll for you know what (efficient packing).

7. Cosco laundry detergent scoop (came with bucket of detergent)

Sooooooooooooo

a. fold inner garbage bag w. kitty litter tightly on itself
b. fold outer garbage bag tightly on itself (traping inner bag in a.)
c. place both bags in bottom of bucket
d. drop in tightly folded garbage back with kitty litter (3 above) on top
e. throw in the toilet paper roll
f. throw in the shock cord.
g. throw in the orange/grapefruit peel
h. put top on and load into cruiser (or on top on the rack).

Procedure:

take all out of bucket except the 2 bags (bag within the other bag).
open bags, take outer bag and allow to go outside of bucket.
put on pipe insulation over edge to bucket (trapping that first bag above on ouside of bucket)
take the inner bag and pass over the insulation to outside of bucket, secure w. shock cord
Do the do.........
take a scoop or two of cat litter from resevoir and cover.......
unsecure shock cord and tightly collapse inner bag on self
put orange peel in then just lightly (non sealed) put bucket top on until next use.

When ready to boogie

remove pipe insulation
seal outer bag traping inner bag (this double bags the .......)
put tightly closed kitty litter resevoir on top
put toilet paper roll in
put pipe insulation in
put shock cord in
put orange peel in
put top on bucket tightly (air tight)
put on roof rack, secure and off you go.

Now, for those late night fluid discharge (especially for the ladies):
1. empty cosco bulk salmon super thick zip lock type bag
2. parially fill w. kitty litter

Procedure:

Open
squat (or what ever)
discharge into the bag (1. above).
reseal bag
Concept shamelessly lifted from a vendor at last years overland expo.

good enough for 2 or so.

End of trip disposal.....debatable whether either can go into trash. Need to reach out to tread lightly or the backpacker community on this.

Booth concepts have been tested with wife giving 'em a 10/10.

Time....we don't waste no stinking time......

My wife isn't exactly the hardcore camping type and we have 3 young kids. That can be a lot of trips across a camp ground in the night. So I bought the ammo can toilet and she agrees to use it and the kids love it. Quite expensive but given that it allowed us to go camping as a family it was worth it.
ECO-Safe 50 USE RK AmmoBox Toilet System

It requires 2 ammo cans, one to hold the container and the other to transport the lid and toiletries.
It is a bit nasty but at home I dump it in the toilet while flushing then clean it out with toilet cleaner. Everything goes to the city sewage system not left behind for the next camper.

Picture from last summer. This is in the tent vestibule.

Another Reliance user here - my daughters immediately stopped worrying/complaining once that became part of the camping experience. The bags work as-advertised, no mess/fuss/odors to deal with.

.....BTW, I will buy Reststop product because buying at walmart means you are paying for your purchases twice. Once to make the Walton's rich and the second time to pay for the welfare of it's employees through your taxes.

Sorry, but what exactly are you referring to? If "Reststop" is a product line, store or outfitter of sorts, a quick Google search didn't point me in any obvious direction. If your only point is to get us to recognize that you're anti-Walmart, please disregard. However, if there's something to be learned here, please do share - thx!

Got one of these:
Nemo Helio Pressure Shower

to replace shower provided with this:

Ozark Trail 2-Room 7' x 3.5' Instant Shower/Utility Shelter - Walmart.com

as suggested in reply #33 by LandCruiserPhil and they work great together.

As far as stakes to tie the shelter down, a pet tether stake works well in sand or soft soil. They can be purchased at Walmart (pet section) or most any business that has a pet section. They're about $3.50 a piece, but well worth the money when the wind kicks up! I got 6 of them.

I'd recommend them to replace key tent stakes for any tent used in windy conditions on sand or soft surface.

P.S. Use a stake hammer to hammer the stake into the surface about 2", then use the handle of the hammer as a lever to screw the stake into the ground. The farther you screw it in - the more secure it will be.

Festival shower: take a water bottle, cut a hole in the top (or get one of those fancy water bottles with a sippy top), put a squirt or two of body wash in and shake it up. Strip down behind some tarps strung up between two trucks, spray yourself, and wipe down with a washcloth and you're golden. Make sure you have an extra bottle of clean water for rinsing!
