Just got back to working on my 40. Opened up my donor engine to check bearing specs and inspect pistons, cam, head etc., everything looks good.... so far. I should be able to reassemble soon. Any recommendations on engine block paint? I am thinking tan/black color scheme. Gary do you know what was used on your nephew's block? It looks great.

Nice! I have a black set of these seats (power and heat) collecting dust in the garage if anyone else wants to do this. I paid $350 for them. Make me an offer.
Nice, I've got the brackets, and some black manual, heated seats too. Maybe this week...Installed 03 BMW 3 series heated power seats in the rig this weekend. Used the Torfab bolt in brackets. They worked great with the exception of needing to remove the rear seat heater. Here are a couple of pics:

That's a great rig you have there. I wouldn't change a thing.
Sure did Pacer. I was able to snag the factory (chassis side) wiring pigtail from the seat plug. A couple quick internet searches and some common sense deductions and I was able to isolate the heat and power circuits. The nice thing about the BMW seats is that they only feed a hot and a ground into the seat harness, which powers all of the motors for movement. The individual motors feed off of this single input source. So that was pretty easy. Heat wise I'm waiting on a universal heating kit from Amazon to utilize the harness, relays and switches. My plan was to just use the existing heaters in the seats and graft in the harness to them.

Would a simple rheostat work? I've never hooked up seat heaters but would love some in the 40!!
Jake - I gave that considerable thought. I have a Gerbing's heated jacket circuit on my motorcycle that works like a charm. It has a real simple circuit that is set up with a rheostat and small LED indicator and a 10 amp fuse that ties right into the battery. The reason I decided on the universal car kit was that it wound up being less expensive to do both seats and it had rocker switches that mocked the factory Toyota ones. The universal kit was only $80 shipped to my door and the Gerbings kits were $59 each, not that price alone was a deal breaker, but I liked the thought of a "factory" looking switch too. I suppose you could research the rheostat and get one from Radio Shack or NAPA for much less money add a fuse holder and build your own circuit, but I'm way too lazy to do that!

Yes, a Gerbing or First Gear Heat-Troller. I ordered a dual zone, says it will handle 15wats and my research shows each seat will draw about 4wats.
I think it is not a rheostat, no resistor, I believe they cycle the power I/O to your desired comfort level...

Well, it took all winter, but I've finally got the IPF harness and headlights in. Had to take a brief detour to re-wire the entire charging system, and put in a GM 12si alternator.
While I was at it I added some new horns, to replace the single Ford horn that was mounted next to the battery...
And replaced my badly grounded, cracked turn signals - added some ground cables to them for good measure...
Had to Dremel and drill every bezel bolt out, but in the end - the IPF lights went in.
Now I'm in the home stretch, just need to aim them, but like the genius I am I left the keys in the ignition on "accessory" and killed the battery! Hoping to get it jumped and aim the lights here soon.

Two 40's being delivered from Ohio today, a 73 FST a little rusty but mostly complete and running, and a rusty 78 that will be parted out. lots of parts headed back to Ohio, too!
