Took advantage of te nice weather today temps in the thirties and sunshine to do some work on the project 40. I had bought an H55 5 speed complete with split transfer case and parking brake from a friend in Massachusetts. Had another friend up there (thanks Chris!!!) pick it up and take it to the new penn freight terminal. I picked it up at the terminal in Reading Wednesday. Today I dropped the 4 speed that I had installed a few months ago and slipped the 5 speed in. No problems everything fit well. I will need to move the shifter holes in my tranny cover back about 3 1/4" but i'll leave that up to my body man. Some pics attached. Wish the body guy would call and tell me to bring the tub over to his shop! Gary

Saw some dude in Harrisburg had rolled his '93 and needed a front clip...I sold him mine, and now it's going to come apart and be put on a pallet rack.
Does anybody need anything from it? The interior is very nice...

Started digging into the wiring on my 75 in an effort to upgrade the headlights to the IPF Halogens, with new headlight harness.

Found out my alternator was dead, I have no fusible links anywhere and one functional main ground to the tub...
So my plug-and play headlight install has become an upgrade to a more modern internally regulated alternator, a rebuild of my charging system wiring and the addition of fusible links and grounds so I'm not a rolling fire-bomb. Some shots of the P.O.'s handy work and the beginnings of my efforts to fix them:

Wow, looks like you guys took advantage of the Christmas vacation! I meant to, but only got house stuff done. I spent all week moving lighting around in the kitchen, patching drywall and painting.....

Greg, does that thing have elockers? I bought a set of axles a while back and need a few misc doodads to get mine wired up.

Rick- ground wires are extremely important on an old cruiser. Bad grounds are the cause in my opinion of 90% of all electrical problems. I run a heavy ground wire from the battery to the engine and then run a heravy ground strap between the engine and the frame. I also am always sure to run a good heavy ground from the engine to the body. Easy to do and a sure fire way to avoid a lot of problems. Good luck with the upgrade- take your time and do it nice and neat. Keep us posted! Gary
@shmukster: Gary - Way ahead of you! This thing is a rolling fire-bomb waiting to happen. If it'd known an iota about wiring when I bought it, I wouldn't just be getting to it now!
I've got parts shipping to me to completely rebuild the charging system wiring when I replace the alternator with an updated, internally regulated style. I also have the components to make several, beefy, 2AWG grounds. I have one running to the tub from the battery, a second will run from battery to frame, and a third from starter to frame. I'll also run a ground wire from the frame to the engine block - There's actually the remnants of an old ground hanging off a manifold bolt:
If I can ever get that manifold bolt off, that is...
In addition to that, I'll be adding the appropriate fusible link to the main harness (which is currently long gone), plus a second fusible link in the BAT+ line from alternator to battery. I'll also be bypassing the ammeter/main harness on account of the truck now running a potential amperage that would burn it up.
I will post up pictures of the progress once I get them. And to think - this headlight upgrade is supposed to be "plug and play!"

Not as ambitious as you guys (or as talented) but I'm using the winter months to refurbish my doors. Gutted them, cleaned 32 years of grease and grime from the insides, cleaned up the window mechanisms and had them painted. Installed new window channel runs but still have the rubber to put on. Is 3M adhesive the best to use for the weather strip?
