Some of you may know my daughter the recent college grad has been in Austria as part of AIMS in Gras a month long Opera singing program. As someone that had just graduated, it was quite a surprise to hear that not only did she enter the "Meistersinger" competition at the end of the program (with another 100 or so people) but she became one of the 8 finalists.

What that meant is she got to perform to an Austrian audience of about 1000 - complete with symphony orchestra backing her up, judges, professional Opera singers, and agents in the audience.

Soooooo.... Not only did she win first place, she got audience favorite! She then got to sit with one of her singing idols, who sent her a text the next day saying her agent has a part for her in an Opera in Vienna. So yeah, she's basically a professional Opera singer in Austria now...

Oh, and yesterday I saw that Vienna was named the best city in the world to live. No US city made the top 10. I might have to go visit!

Unfortunately, the video that I have of her singing is bootlegged. No good video yet... but the sound is decent at least. If you don't know German Opera you'll likely not know what she's saying, but if you like opera in the least bit, you'll appreciate the talent.

James - She is amazing. I don't know much about opera, but what a voice.

Your Wife must be an amazing singer, as your daughter doesn't sound anything like this guy:

Yep. Me. At 19.

I’ve played a lot of Dead, Dylan, etc.

I played with these guys for about 2 years and then I moved. They just celebrated their 18th anniversary. When this show was filmed I had only been with them about 2 weeks. Their bassists echo Spinal Tap’s drummers. You can’t dust for vomit. Lots of cool songs if you check out the rest on YouTube.

With the Dirty Dozen Brass Band

Wait, you played in Dirty Dozen?

I played with them a few times. One of the bands I played in had a few shows with them and they would come up and play on stage with us. Crazy guys.

Have seen them a couple times when opening for WSP, that's really cool. They are a lot of fun and talented!

I read that and moved on to the next thread. Had to come back when I thought “No way in hell did Ramon say he saw DDBB open for WASP”.

Laugh!

Not my style of music but I can still appreciate good music and the girl had buckets of talent and soul.

RIP Ms. Franklin

So, are we saying that we could put an actual ONSC band together?

I found out yesterday that Phish never played/sang "Gin & Juice" - it was Phish Myth - was the Gourds.

Anyway, couple of teachers that frequent 580 Craft Beer went to the Phish concert back on the 10th.

Since the only Phish song I thought I knew was Gin and Juice, I had to listen to some:
