I was very nervous around it for the first two weeks it was on the stand, but after I realized it was not going to fall off I stopped worrying about it. :D

It has been 5 months now and it's STILL on the stand. I have moved the dang thing all over my 1 car garage and it has been pretty stable.

Yes it does sag a wee bit but not enough to worry about. I would recommend this stand to anyone.

Are you waiting on how long it takes to bend your stand?

What is taking you 5 months?

Work, wife, evening job, remodeling, and when I do have time to work on it I end up having to clean the garage just to get to it and then I'm out of time again! :D

Any from the first pic to the last shows I'm making SOME progress! :flipoff2:

a couple of more questions

Ok so i got a 2k stand from harbour freight $80 on sale not really a U shape but not a T shape either kind of a V and T mixed.. Whatever.

I used a cherry picker to get the engine trans and transfer (all together) out of the back of the truck. It was laying on it's side so I wrapped chains around the whole thing to hoist it, as I didn't see any loops to hook to, as i would have expected. so now that its on the ground (on top of some old tires and upright again),

How/Where can I reconnect the hoist so that i can separate the transfer case and transmission?

What bolts (sizes) will I need when I get to the point of putting the engine on the stand?

Thanks for  the advice.

you can use head bolts to lift it.... that is if you are going to take the head off... if not use the bolt hole on the side where the alt. bracket hooks to... and go across the head behind the exhaust man. in the corner there will be another hole.. (I am going off memory, which is not very good :D) and I dont know what that hole is used for off the top of my head....

I wouldn't recommend using head bolts as lifting devises... no need to add any extra, out of the ordinary strain to them...;) I often do it but have a couple of designated bolts just for that purpose only..

" do what I say... not what I do...." :D

What have you done? What is up with the red paint? Why would you do that to a great engine?:flipoff2:

My gayness is spreading.:D

How else do you polish a turd?

For your information that is powder coat on all the parts, not paint, AND it was all done months ago! I'm just now getting around to putting it all back together!

Also I copied the IDave look for the block but came up with my Color scheme after a few, uh, adult beverages based on tequila! :grinpimp:

Pretty close, eh?:D

What color does the header get?

Ed

Actually I'm going to sand blast the Downey header to remove the last traces of chrome, then powder coat it a dull gray. Then I will use Summit header wrap or some other type of header cover over it. I want to keep as much heat as possible out of the engine bay. I have never liked the fact that the header is so close to the oil filter/lines.

I was going to do the water pump and thermo cover in metallic blue but found that pressing the bearing out of the water pump so I could bake it and getting it back in again was hard to do even with my press!

The valve cover is going to get some special treatment also. :grinpimp:

I thought the valve cover was already painted????I've seen a pic of it's gayness already. What else can you do to it..................decoupage???:D

Mark, if you "cured" your powdercoat in an oven, which I seem to recall, how in the hell is that plastic coating not going to burn off headers in about 5 minutes?
Send them to JetHot and solve both problems at once.

do you rebuild 2f's for others? My 76 needs new rings....little issue with compression.

Wasn't mine you saw painted must have been some other gay build? Mine is still just a polished 2F cover for now...:grinpimp:

The powder coat I am using is a high temp powder designed for headers. See pic of a set of Ford 302 headers I did for a friend. They have held up very well. Plus I'm wrapping them with header wrap remember? :D
Can't justify Jet Coat at what, $200 to coat!:D

OK, it was Trollhole's Big Gay 2F thread on the valve cover.

On the powdercoat/high temp. Last I read you were using an oven to cure out the PC............so what's that like 500* max? So does the PC finish curing when you fire the motor? Just curious....:)

Taking all this powder coating, paint, mickey mouse headers and valve cover additions into the equation, So how much added weight are we talking about here?
