I'm pretty convinced on 5W-30 here in the Southeast, but prior owners did all dealer service (so assuming Toyota 0W-20 fill) until over 200k.

Anyone switched at high mileage? Bad idea to try something new on the truck at that age?

I put 5w30 in last night. Maybe it's confirmation bias after reading other posts on here, but I do feel like the engine is quieter/smoother.

Nice. Mine definitely was. It loves it.

It's definitely quieter, no doubt about it.

Thanks @Julian73
The beginning of that part number was obscured in a picture in this thread.

For future reference, Here is the other 5W-30 oil filler cap, part number 12180-38030, with blue Lexus font that @bjowett found

Thanks! The discounts do vary by selling dealer. I paid $9.87 for 12180-0H012 through McGeorge Toyota Parts

has anyone tried 0w30 in our 5.7s?

Yes, I run that exclusively. Mobil 0w-30 easily found at Wally World. 0W to be close to factory fill with better start protection in cold and winter. Even though I live in San Diego, I often frequent the mountains for camping and ski trips. 30 for better heavy towing protection moving 15k+ lbs combined weight, where I'm spinning the motor over 4500rpm, sometimes for 30 minutes at a time climbing grades.

I high quality 0W-30 is just fine and beats the 5W-30 if driving in very cold temps. Only negative of a wider range is that more VI's are used and this tend to breakdown over time. However the highest quality Group IV and V true synthetics use more stable polymer chains to begin with in the base stock thus don't need to relit on an excess of VI's (Think of the hydrocarbon molecule being a single strand line hair vs. a tangled mess).

Back to the question I changed to a 5w-30 cap even though I prefer a 0W30 oil. I would much rather assure a wayward service center put in 5W-30 than 0W-20.

Did my change this weekend with this exact product. Agree with possible confirmation bias, but definitely feels smoother.

@bloc I think you're also in Texas...do you switch back to 0W-20 for December-February? Or run 5W-30 year-round?

I’m in Texas and ran it all winter, I have no plans of going back at any point but I don’t spend much time in extremely cold climates.

5-30 year round for me. Winter in Alaska/Canada/Montana etc would be a different story, even though realistically that would be fine too. I’d probably push for 0w-30 there.
