Point well taken. I'd be tempted to throw in a couple of window units and a wood stove if it were me. Cheap enough to be at least a little more comfortable during the extremes.Size can work against you too!
My case for example. My bride found her dream home in '05 and it happened to have a 40ft by 80ft brick out building that matched the house. It got better yet when the loan appraisal came in that the out building was a freebie (i.e., we had negotiated such good price that house & land more than covered needs for the loan). This was all great.
But 3200 sq ft of unheated/uninsulated shop is not easy to work in with temperature extremes. The cost to upgrade with insulation / heating-cooling /floor coating / ... a 3200 sq ft building adds up very fast to non-trivial sums. My lovely bride is not a fan of non-trivial sums. Her current feedback to funding requests is sell Cruisers until you have enough money to cover the shop upgrade costs.
Looks like I will continue to sweat like stuck hog in the summer and freeze each winter.
