The part that you're proposing to weld up in the manifold will be flat. That part isn't covered by the gasket, so there will be a narrow space that exhaust gasses can pass between the weld and the head.
Yeah that makes sense, that's why I'm gonna try and use a front manifold gasket so it'll surround the exhaust port and cut off that thin path to the egr hole

I'm pretty sure DELTA is selling all of the blocking plates you need to delete the EGR.

I just spent the time and $$ replacing my EGR valves and hoses, then found the plates!
Delta does sell the EGR block off plates, but they are for the drivers side of the head and the intake, i'll probably just make my own of those. I'm trying to prevent exhaust gas from entering the head through the exhaust manifold which is why I'm doing these funky things

i just cut off the pipe about an inch from the block flange on the pass side then pinched it together, beat it down and welded the seem, never had any issues with it.

Installed four new OEM window runs, closed cell foam sheet on the back of the door cards, and fixed rattling LEDs in the mud lights. I haven't been able to test it yet but I have high hopes it will sound more solid on the inside.

I added some neoprene tape to my glovebox to provide constant tension on the latch and reduce rattling. I also stuck foam pads inside of my cargo drawer to provide similar tension and reduce rattling.

I did this a month ago. I thought I posted details here.

Flexible LED strip, with a waterproof switch. It's actually brighter than the picture.

Todays wrenching -
Finally finished the install of the quarter panel armor only my 40. It was a bear to wrestle them over my best up sheet metal
By myself but I'm pleased with how they turned out. I want to do countersunk bolts but that was more time consuming so for now I have button head Allen's so she'll be ready to get scratched up next weekend at Morris Mtn and Chocco.

Also swapped the starter, clutch slave cylinder, and clutch master on my '89 3.4 swapped 4Runner. Still no start but hey it cranks now.

Today's adventure was milling out a broken bolt on my front axle housing. Fun.

Edit: I realize there's a drill in the pic, but there was much milling before this point, lol.

Looking for opinions -

So I have the head off the 1FZ-FE in my 80 to do the HG, head is currently at the machine shop. I need to do a rear main on it badly as well. At this point I think it would be easier to remove the block and do the rear
Main than it would be to drop the trans. That being said I might end up pulling the block, doing the rear main, then dropping the trans and tcase to reseal lol, the while you're in there ball gets to rolling and it's hard to stop

Pull it. If you don't have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over?

Pull the entire drivetrain. You need to seal your pans anyway.

It's not so much the taking it out part that sucks, it's the putting it back in part. Remember, this thing was built with the engine, transmission and transfer case dropped onto the frame, without the body on it, as a unit. The next best thing, lacking removing the body, which no one wants to do, is to pull the entire assembly out and slide it back in all in one piece.

Reassembling the drivetrain on a bench, pallet, whatever, is so much easier than doing it under the truck.

Dealing with the transmission and transfer case together (or separately, which I'd never do) is a PITA, whether it's on a lift or on the ground. It's just unwieldy.

Yeah I definitely agree it is way easier to deal with drivetrains intact. I have had some absolute battles getting transmissions mated to engines in the vehicle before. Usually issues with clutch alignment but still a pain.

Unlike the 40s and early 60s, the 80s and 100s have very little problem getting the transmission alone mated to the engine. It's getting the transfer case onto the transmission afterwards, or the transmission and transfer case together onto the engine that's a PITA. Even with a transmission jack, you have to wrestle with something.

It's so much easier to bolt everything together outside the frame. As a matter of fact, if I had to work on an 80 or 100 that had a head problem, one which had never been pulled before, given all the extra work that it would needed by that time, I'd pull the entire drivetrain.

I pull the entire drive line together and install the same way, far easier.

Heather and I were watching one of those TV car shows and 5 guys were having all kinds of issues trying to set just a Hemi in an old Cuda. Heather says "how the hell do they make any money in that shop with 5 guys fussing over one engine install? I've seen you set motor/trans/T case alone with far less issues." I told her that they are making money on the show, not so much the mechanical work. Much more drama with 5 guys and that is what they sell.

I'll have to air up the tires and roll the 80 out of the garage to pull the drivetrain intact, but honestly need to do it anyways since I accidentally trapped my Kubota lawn tractor in the garage with it lol

Which completely unrelated, but let me show off my free Diesel lawn tractor with a 60" deck.

Is it beat? Yes. But is it cool? Absolutely
Does it run? Haven't gotten that far because I trapped it in the basement

Anyone in the club near Charlotte do differential gear installs? I have two diffs out and in buckets and a set of 4:56s.

I’ll take a video later of the play in my front diff. It is mildly alarming.

I’d rather pay someone in the club.
