I drained the oil in the 80 tonight, no metal! But it smelled like awful old gas and it’s nit even old either.

My oil has never smelled like gas before, in last oil changes, so that would make me think my piston rings are fine. But I’m guessing after trying to crank it after the HG the cylinders just filled up with gas.
Washing down the cylinders isn't a thing anymore with stock efi systems. Can't flood it, not really.
Keep taking it apart. Send us pics once you have the head off.

Or take some pictures with one of those little fancy borescopes that you can get off Amazon for 39 bucks stuffed down the spark plug hole before you start taking it apart.
This is the best idea. Inspect the cylinder walls before pulling it apart, to see if it's worth pulling apart.
2 jobs, neither would qualify as Heavy duty wrenching, but I feel like I earned my beers...
Finally Installed my New spring loaded coolant cap in the 60... only 6 months after the infamous hurricane creek crap coolant cap debacle... when my cap separated into three pieces on the side of a narrow mountain trail, each piece was lost at one point of our trail side fix... @Roxx @fj40alex @roadstr6 @forrest5000 due to me taking off the cap like an idiot while the engine was hot...camping coolant shower... I’m really lucky no one got hurt
Also changed the oil and filter on my “on-reader” family hauler... as I continue to procrastinate on performing the endless amounts of rust repair on the forty

My welder friend is coming over after work Wednesday to weld in the motor mounts in the 40!!!! The 40’s gonna have a heart!

Looking for a place to take some steering linkage ujoints (smaller then driveline ones) to and have them replaced. Any recommendations in the Raleigh Durham area?
I fiddled with them for a couple hours and they quickly became my nemesis. I’ll either pay to get them replaced or buy all new yokes and ujoints. I just can’t figure out how to get them to press out.

Nemesis no more! Just went out to the shop and got them all removed in under 5 minutes total. This after spending hours earlier.

Got one side almost done most likely I’ll start the other side and then just mock it up and weld it on after I have figured out all the angles and maybe do some light trimming on the rear quarters

Got the 40 prepped for the engine, pulled some miscellaneous things out, including the gas tank which exposed surprisingly just about the only rust on it.

Well the engine install got postponed tonight. My welder friend got T-Boned on the way to his house and I think his Ranger is totalled. So he has to deal with that all night.
