They feel great from limited seat time so far. Trying to find a set of 91/92 seat belt recievers in brown to utilize.

Nice tall position. Had to move wheel up which feels funny but just different. Comfortable for sure. Good thigh support and depth and awesome view of road and dash how i have mine set.

On those charcoal canisters...If the ones on the 80's are like the ones on the 60's, you can swap positions of a couple of the tubes on top to allow it to function again (or at least partially function).

FWIW there has been a rash of busted 60/62 tanks over the last few years due to clogged charcoal canisters. As a result, tanks are getting hard to come by. 62 tanks are no more. From my understanding what happens is the canister clogs, the tank gets pressurized and the spot welds in the tank begin to pop and leak gas. I read somewhere on MUD to swap the hoses on the top. That eliminated the whoosh of air I was getting when I removed the gas cap at fill-up. I have not looked into the workings of the charcoal canister but the little hose swap trick seems to be working on my 60. Not sure if it applies for the 80 though. Good luck!

I'll try it on my 80 this week and report back. Been getting the pressurized tank pretty badly lately.

Here's the link I found about the charcoal canister. Like I said, may not work for an 80 but worked like a champ on my 60: Fuel tank over pressurizing

Did the "blue spring mod" aka fuel pressure regulator (I believe?) update on the Ford earlier. Not too bad considering how the pics look. 2.5 hours going slow and replaced the intercooler boots while in there. Center frame in the second shot.

Cheap teacher wrenching. Ceiling mounts for data projectors run about $150. The swivel base for a discarded CRT monitor = $0.00.

...and THAT is the kind of ingenuity and resourcefulness that can only be learned by grossly underfunding our public education system.

Seriously though, nicely done.

My daughter Allison told me how much she liked the look of Alex's 40 on the Hurricane Creek trip. As it had been so many years ago, she forgot the top came off my 40 as well.

I took the top off a couple weeks back but finally installed the SOR bikini top today. I bought it second hand not long after buying my 40 but had never used it.

I winced as I drilled holes to mount the channel and instead of drilling holes to mount footman loops, I repurposed some leftovers from some long forgotten projects for the straps.

I think I'll like it during the heat of summer but will ditch it when cooler temps arrive.

I believe I just ran the straps under the rear feet for the roll bar and used a Strap buckle. No holes.

I picked up a couple of those 115V squirrel cage fans from Rafael last Friday. Nathan and I wired them up with a plug and a switch. One of my fans is a three speed and the other is a four speed. We used a three position (center off) toggle switch and wired them to run slowest speed on one position and highest speed on the other. The fans work great but not as powerful as the one we were using at Shandor's the weekend before last. That one may have been a 220v unit? I welded on a couple of pieces of angle to make "legs" to keep the fan from rolling over. Also, a 750lb mule tape carrying handle and tacked some expanded metal over the front to keep small hands, dogs' tails, etc. out of the turbine.

Did you try the fans before putting the expanded metal over the front? Because those are centrifugal fans (Centripetal really but not getting on that soap box now) they are very sensitive to restriction. These fans are funny ..... they have a sweet spot with regards to moving too much air (motor overheats) and not moving enough. To find the sweet spot have the fan running while you slide a piece of sheet metal up and down the exhaust opening to "tune" it for maximum RPM .... then secure.

Nice dave...... Lil metal over the intake might not be a bad idea either. They love to eat plastic bags ;)

Finally have tunes back in the 45 thanks to @Rice and @JohnVee for the hardware

Superglued the fridge shelf (evidently there was a WLL i was unaware of)

Dissected and reassembled sti shifters in the road bike and got them working again

Big weekend ya know

No Rice, I didn't do that. I wasn't aware that it could make a difference. My fans don't spin super fast even on the high setting. I will give it a try. Maybe that will perk them up a bit.

I plan to cover the inlet side with wire or expanded metal. I just didn't have enough expanded metal on hand yesterday. That is my plan though. I noticed a couple of leaves pinned against the inside that had gotten sucked up so, yeah, I can see how a plastic bag could find it's way in there.

Wasn't there some talk about the direct drive units not being as powerful as the belt drive units?

I seem to recall that discussion as well. I'm hoping that Rice's "restrictor plate" mod does the trick on mine. I'll report back.

So much fan talk - gets me thinking of putting an attic fan in the garage.

What can I say? When it comes to these squirrel cages, I'm a fan!:rimshot:

I did fab up a "restrictor plate" on my fans last night and it made a huge difference in the output. Thanks for the tip, Rice.

Nice. Giving credit where due, that's a little tip I picked up from my HVAC neighbor. Glad to pass it on.

Replaced the power steering pump on Moonshine last night. Gear driven power steering on the cummins, so the gear has to be pulled off, then the pump removed from the bracket, then reinstalled. Old (left) next to new (right).

In the 60 series forum, I've been preaching for a while that an 80 series box can be bolted onto a 60, yet I had not done it yet. Picked up an 80 box from @mel lowe at the Relic Run and am just now putting it on.

80 series box on the left, 60 series box on the right (no, I don't have that mixed up, yes, my 60 series box has an 80 series pitman arm on it). The 80 series box is about 1" longer towards the firewall and about 1/4" taller towards the hood, but she fits in the 60 just fine. It's hard to tell, but the 80 series box has a larger power piston, meaning it provides better steering assist.

Now when installing, you need to make sure to install the steering shaft before the box gets bolted in or else there isn't enough room in the steering shaft to collapse far enough to get it on:. Also, you need to pry up on the fender a little bit to let the box rotate in:

iC0Uo4kbw-xaCpeoVgp8FZBwRhOFPrzg6iW4j5-WQy4pGWJzfnP__vOgKBi-8p2JqCeOLroFMkNN6GrgwP15BmL8Sy6Pr_A8tLXaBaVeq_0EuwnSaK_k_hphVU2UHrhm6L02sLsC1SaJZWKl4akfjjyfX8BnmCbW9tc3AU0vuhpvMsWibNcqozkot-ntZvN1yypUzQyumBSZbuIPxQdl2Mrqb-NFgeBEn0hFkGG5pNClB5hMbZJVAHcbxQsNZ3NrmybbWrCC95nk3R4I5ztpmpWs_0w4_93OU0hLeBSX__IysBb-PyZbBRW-8RV4kPz86cAt4kALyx5Qy4y9xaBzd7ZmoSqyxTAV4yXda0kMN2D0qIsPMxYyrsrJL8TmuWukSMltj0Tg0zSaB3OYCEExiu8ZdraKzOpNGGoA8f39cVrmPo99vE5vZXisSUhsGzgP-b72kkb7B55e5HqN7XB7VQILVsP34RiYhxvnUYyaltNlL4nG05cbz03s95ecIugLbuBCvCBg8CtCclsE_4FFUFREkvZukrnOtVItkeGqjotRi8zluTq6lyoR365s-HRms1WUOvWDgbehE8gpsXUExhb2qoHFtQ7cDVfKWErqrIeIWYRwKQ=w2706-h2009-no

And there you have it. You can see that the bolts on top of the box straddle the lip of the fender. It's tight, but she fits without touching.

Next up, ream new pitman arm, MC/prop valve replacement, hydroboost replacement, maybe run a new front brake line, install PS cooler, bleed brakes and steering system, then this round is over. Got some things in the works to get moonshine some more traction aiding devices this fall :D
