OUCH!!!!!

Pssssssst, pick up the cold end :) I'd still be soaking my hand in ice water.

All new filters for Jetta yesterday (except fuel still waiting on uber filter) German made Mann's except their oil filter is now made in mexico so i'll be looking for another brand for that.

Also new OEM Valeo starter and cleaned off ABS sensor again but still fault so new one is ordered.

Battery out to get to starter.

Hard to see but all back together and starter in.

Amazing how well it starts now.

We always used to keep an Aloe plant around for burns. You break off a leaf and squeeze out the gel and put it right on burns/cuts.

And Soy Sauce.

Soy sauce covered in aloe vera gel? Sounds pretty tasty to me!

Hey Patrick, Did that soldering iron happen to have a phillips screw in it? It looks like you have a perfect image of a screw head embossed into your hand now. Ouch!

Valve adjustment on the Turd this weekend. Also new valve cover gasket. Vroom! Vroom! (well it is a 2F so I guess Pfft! Pfft! is more like it).

Why yes it did, I was working in my gravel driveway and I guess the iron blended in with the stone, put my hand down to get under the truck and, sizzle. The kicker is I had finished all the wiring, at least it gave me a reason to keep a cold beer in my hand the rest of the night.

Just noticed your new rig, sweet F550. Is it a 7.3 or a 6.0?? If 6.0 Head studs installed and EGR fixed or deleted?

Thanks! 2004, so early 6.0. EGR deleted, no head studs. Saving up to dump a lot of money in the motor (remote oil cooler, head studs and OEM gaskets, injectors and harness, glow plugs and harness, new HP oil pump, lines and pipes, rebuild turbo likely with wicked wheel, all the trimmings, etc) so it's good for the long run.

Sweet..... check and double check when doing the studs and new gaskets. The 6.0 is a great motor when everything is worked out. Combined with the ZF trans is a killer combo.

That's what I've been reading. It certainly has a good amount of power now. I've got a contribution balance code and "HPOP lower than commanded" code so I've got some high pressure oil leaks to take care of. On top of that, on the highway my EOT/ECT delta can get up to around 25* so I need a new oil cooler as well.

Either way, I'm stoked about the whole package. Can't wait to start towing with it.

Oh! Memories, bad memories! That sucks Patrick....:bang:

I see the McDonald's cup in the background, can you pretend it was the coffee and sue them?

New "Uber" fuel filter from Nicktane arrived last night for the Jetta.

Opted for the one that uses the 2 Micron Absolute Cat filter. Stock is 5-7 micron nominal depending on where the filter is made. All the German brands make filters in Austria and Germany (those are the ones you want) or at their sub factories in Mexico or India (those are the ones you don't want) so its hard to nail down exactly how well their filters filter.

More thanks to rice.

Wrapping up the move and took advantage of some electrical help available last week in the new basement/shop. Hard wired air compressor, ran 110 for lights and an outlet, rewired the welder and fan for 50 amp plug

Moving on to cruisers. I picked up some used procar elite seats and fabbed up some brackets to mount the 62 feet to the 80 floor. Whittled out the brackets this am with the 4" plasma grinder then rolled down to rices to review and burn em in with the buttery smoothness of a Miller running on gas. I gotta get a better welding setup.

Looks good Jason, I did the same thing today, made a set of custom brackets for a 62 using Lumbar Elites, nice seats. Might be a little tight for my large frame though :(

Up side is, Heather's dead Volvo S80 is sitting in front of the shop waiting for me to remove the most comfortable seats I've ever owned.

The charcoal canister on my 94 has failed the FSM tests. I was thinking of removing the canister altogether and just getting a vented gas cap. I know this is not the most environmentally friendly option but if would free up a lot of room behind the battery box. With a stock canister unavailable and the vc120 as the most popular option, what concerns would there be just eliminating it

You'd smell like gas when you get out of your truck. It's unpleasant and may cause you to have less friends and a more irritable wife. I don't think the amount of fuel venting under the hood will present a flammability risk, but can't say for sure. If you plug your lines to mitigate the underhood venting, I don't think a venting gas cap will work sufficiently. The canister was removed from my 40 during desmog, and I smell like gas when I get out even though the lines ar plugged and I have a venting gas cap. Not that big of a deal, but for the 80, I went with the VC120. It's bigger than stock, so instead of reusing the OEM hardware, I used I zip tie. @Rice used a bolt on his and it looks better. FWIW, I think the generic charcoal canister would do a better job than the alternative... My canister was bad, I feel like the truck performed better after I replaced it.

Agree with Jeremy. The gas smell doesn't sound like such a big deal while typing in my air conditioned house, but out on the trail or running around town it is overwhelming and annoying.

FYI .... because of the bigger size of the GM canister I completely removed the lower mounting strap and only used the top strap with a longer bolt. Pic of the final install one page back on this thread.

I believe I paid $60 at O'Really.

I thought I paid $30 for my VC120. Easy install and worth it.

Here ya go Jason @jfz80, installed them with the new brackets this morning. How did they feel driving on Sun
