Bout all she will get for now; phase I of Swingout is done. Was rushing trying to beat the deadline and then more accurately the rain today. So many thanks to so many folks. @GLTHFJ60 and @Rice for bouncing ideas off. @fj40z for labor and laughs and @Mtbcoach for tube bending assistance as well as encouraging me to change course on the design. And thanks to @concretejungle for letting me break in his new welder :)View attachment 1254176View attachment 1254177

Yup... Still room for 37s ;)
Very nice outcome, wise decision to move tire (weight) closer to pivot point, glad I could help you get it done...

Had a new trans put in the TDI Jetta last week. Sadly I didn't do it because my arms don't stretch across the country but I did get a killer deal on a brand new trans from Bora Parts that had a taller 5th gear .658. So we will see if this helps in the MPG department. Most people seem to register a 4mpg improvement at 70MPH.

Hopefully this is the last major thing I ever have to do to the Jetta..... if not i'll report it stolen and let the club use it as target practice. LOL

If you are doing a saginaw pump and or box replacement give a thought to making your own lines, both pressure and return. This is a pressure line from a saginaw pump to a stock Toyota steering box, same can also me done with Toyota to Toyota. Using the AN fittings allows for easy hose replacement, ends are reusable and field serviceable. A vise, couple wrenches, little oil and a length of the right hose and you are in business. All the fittings to convert both box and pump are available through PSC

This is a pressure line

Got the trans lines all together. All I need are the 9/16-18 to -6AN fittings for the trans. They used to be 1/4 straight pipe but changed somewhere along the way. Those I have in stock and they fit in two 4L65Es sitting here at the shop.

Morris helping me for as long as a 3 year olds attention span would allow him

Been replacing fuel lines on the 60. This would explain the gas smell.

So I couldn't figure out why my brand new stainless steel bolts that hold my jack to the rear carrier would have just all of a sudden up and stuck to the nut.

I guess there is this thing called "thread gallling" that I had never heard of. Apparently I was dumb to use a stainless bolt in that situation or should have used some anti-seize or . . i don't know.

So now I have to cut a bolt off, I guess. I'm dangerous with a cutting wheel.

Live and learn. Should I just use mid-grade steel bolts going forward for exterior applications?

I've got the Permatex grey bottle (high heat). Use it all the time, never thought to use it on these bolts :(

Any anti seize will do the job so no need for a special trip, but here some good stuff to have in the toolbox for any high torque applications.

Let's see. Throttle body coolant hose in New Mexico, tire puncture repair in Lake Powell. Now a Pinion seal in slick rock campground the day after a ujoint at the Utah canyon credit union parking lot. Upping our streetside wrenching creds, one fix at a time haha

Youre goin to have a new truck by the time you get back to NC

^^^^Sadly I didn't have 15 grand to leave with rock jock in az :/

But more awesome trail wrenching :grinpimp:
 To duct tape and JB weld

Never woulda thought JB would hold on a flexible plastic reservior but held like a champ for a couple weeks now. On the other hand I never doubted my duct tape Colgate repair ;)

Heck, I JB Welded the plastic small coolant bypass fitting on my old radiator, and left on a 2400 mile road trip the following morning. It held up swimmingly. had it on there for another 6 months until the top of the tank cracked.

JB Weld is one of the nectars of the gods.

Safety third.

Figured out the lap straps in my 40 were actually not functioning. So with the top off it was about damn time for some safety! Basic install thanks to Rice for the keep it simple solution. I also still used the brackets passively at all 4 roll bar connections. I figure I can tie a kite to it or something....;)
