I need some ONSC opinions before I finish weld this project tomorrow. What does everyone think? Only difference will be that the winch will be mounted down instead of against the front. No tube yet, just plated in winch mount between the frame rails.

May need some gussets on the bend to prevent corner from bending under stress? That's a mighty winch. Can you reach the release?

Gaps between frame and plate will be filled and winch will be bolted down, not to the front. Yes, can reach everything just fine.

More looking for thoughts on the design/placement. I've been getting good feedback so far, looking for more input!

Yeah, no worries about the bend since it's not taking any load, but I'm afraid I'm not seeing the whole picture. What gets integrated into the rest of the bumper/design?

On a practical note are you sure the winch mount is something you won't one day want undone, I.e. Bolts over welds?

I just cut a welded on bumper off John V's 40 a couple weeks ago. I can tell ya it is a PIA. I have refused to weld on a couple bumpers for a couple walk ins in the past few years. Bolting on is the way to go.

There is no rest of the bumper / design at this point and what you see is 100% being welded in as it serves as a crossmember to support the load from the outboarded (and moved forward) front spring hangers. Think of it as a front crossmember that happens to also house a winch.

Guess I'll just show y'all when it's done.

I am with you on welding in the cross member , just make the bumper part of it bolt on rather than weld on. It just leaves you with more/easier options down the line. Cross members can also be bolted in as well if you choose to.

Design is up to you, you are the guy building it. When I first started bending tube I bought a lot of thinner walled, cheap welded seam and started bending up pieces at different angles and overall shapes. Some I kept and wrote the bend angle on the pieces. Over the years I pulled these pieces out often when coming up with a new design.

:confused:will you at least entertain the idea of building a kegerator into it

 I've already got the fridge and the Co2 setup, so really it's just about putting the tap in the side of the fridge!!

Welded for what felt like an hour and a half straight, on the highest amperage setting that my Hobart ironman 210 could do, still couldn't hit the duty cycle. Very impressed!
