RIP air intake hose, PN 17881-66080. Your life was long and hard, but harder at the end . . .

Gave the '96 my old one and put a new one on the '97 :) The '96 will likely get all hand-me downs. Funny thing - it actually seems to run better with all its old hoses etc :)

Did a bunch of stuff yesterday/today - small potatoes for most, but seemed to take a LONG time:

'96: Front Diff Oil; Transfer Case (needs rear and engine oil tomorrow); New PCV, grommet, and oil catch as well as vent hose for valve cover gasket. Same for the '97. Started cleaning up the engine bay of the '96 a bit with Simple Green. Did various hose swaps for charcoal canister, etc.

Completely re-arranged the battery on the '97 prepping for the dual battery as a next step.

This was just not something I liked due to battery holder being close to terminals and flipped to fit (old set up):

New set up with mock-up of switches for dual battery and winch - took a long time - had to do all new wiring to fit properly. Will use the 1/4" posts for the 2nd battery and ACR.

Underside of ACR set up - will mount the ACR underneath, upside down, and put the green light on top:

Oh man, @weejub. You didn't change the Front then TC but not the Rear...in that order? It goes Rear, Front, TC or everything gets out of whack. I hope you didn't drive it like that.

Just kidding. I haven't given anyone crap today, even after being with inlaws for the better part of the day. Had to get it out of my system.

Well that deserves this picture! :)

Good call getting the holder flipped back over and isolating the posts. Install looks great.

On the '96 LX: Today did the rear diff fluid, engine oil/filter and some vacuum hoses. Also pulled the tires and looked at birf grease level and brakes - both look pretty good. Battery is in good shape - under load of starting it stayed above 11.5V - I think that is pretty good?

Already done, but wanted to thank @NC LX for selling his nice black seats! We pulled them out and vacuumed real good underneath and re-installed a few days ago.

The '96 is about ready to go to college!

No thank you! I was inspired to give Frank new life to the worn interior. @erymer isn’t going to recognize their old seats. New seat gears and caps, Land tank extension brackets, seat heaters, door cards, shifters recovered matching the leather seats and console. New leather front and rear. Also considering putting down sound deadening and carpet.

Awesome!

I think I am going to try to find all cloth for the '97 in the original herringbone tan/brown.

There was/is brown cloth at the Winston Salem u pull it place. someone had grabbed the drivers seat, but the rest were still there a few weeks ago

Finally got some time to work on the 40. Breaks, seals, knuckles, powder coated the factory wheels and got the hub caps for it. Change all fluids. It sounds like i have been busy working on this thing. I am getting back on the road. What a difference having a garage to work on the truck.

So, I picked this nugget up from the machine shop today... now what do I do with it? that's a heavy sumbeeyotch!

Actually, @Rice , do you remember when we tore it down if we got all the studs out? I havent looked in all the baggies i brought home yet. Will it need intake and exhaust studs?

No recollection.

Suggestion .... get some lube on those cams and be sure head is stored standing on end until ready to use (i.e. not laying flat)

They had it on end. it will get lubed and go on end if I can get a free moment where I dont have to watch something poop while attached to a leash

just for a learning moment.... why stand on end instead of flat? the mating surface?

I have some STP cam break in lube you are welcome too even though they arent new or polished.

Laying flat for extended periods can allow a head to warp under its own weight. The same goes for cranks.
