Replaced the 80 driverside power window motor with this from Autozone.
Sorry not more pics but I was in a hurry, it was cold out.

It’s almost bolt in. You’ll need to cut threads into the new motor to bolt up as it has none.

LOL not a lift my friend Just not all the way down on the frame yet

Point of no return

I think that an 18" sleeve welded through at the seam and 46 rosette welds will hold it firm

Coming together

Damn! The original frame wasn't as strong as that will be!

I had a push lock AN fitting come apart on a trans cooler line, first time for me in years of using them. So of course now they are all suspect as far as I am concerned. Gates Power Grip to the rescue. The clamp catches both barbs on the fitting. Suspenders and a belt and they'll still be on my mind.

More frame cutting fun!
The frame has to raise up to the bottom of the rule, a bit over two inches, in order for the 4 rear body mounts to work and be OK for bumper height. I only wanted to make one cut on the frame and not lose any length or add plate to it. So if I cut in just the right spot I can flip it over and weld it right up the same seam and gain the height I need

A little bit of math and a template to prove concept to myself, bingo!!

Point of no return?

Did I mention that due to the outer C of the frame box being larger than the inner C, I need to flip the frame sections side to side in order for the outer C to remain the larger section?

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.
I like it without the upper triangle filled in. Two 3" x 6" 1/4" plate reinforcement on the inside, beveled seam spaced so weld goes through to plates, 18 rosette welds. Don't think its going anywhere

So I’m looking at purchasing a set of OME 2.5” springs for my 80 off of someone and I have a few leads. If I purchased those am I correct in thinking that with just a set of shocks (Bilsteins perhaps) I would be set? Or are there other components of the lift I would still be missing.

Also, couldn’t I just maintain my stock shocks since the shocks that come with a full OME kit are stock sized anyways?

Could likely get by for a while on road. Other items to finish the lift include

Castor correction
Extended brake lines (or bracket mod)
Sway bar drops/blocks

@40LandCruising what Jason said is correct. You could get by for a while with stock shocks while on road but the shocks that come with the OME full lift kit are not stock size. They’re only stock size if you install the original height kit. If you go with lift springs you will need the replacement shocks for off road use.

@fj40z & @jfz80 do either of y’all know if the full OME kit comes with all of those things? I know it comes with shocks, springs, steering stabilizer and caster correction stuff but I don’t know about the brake lines.

A kit is only as complete as the person/vendor that assembles it, id inquire directly with whoever you chose. I do not know for sure but would assume no. Tons of info out there and nothing wrong with OME but lots of new options that werent avail 10 yrs ago.

If going new and OME pick up the phone and call Kurt or the gang
At @cruiseroutfit. He can help get you the right kit and any other pieces needed.

I will suggest skip yellow ome 2* bushings and go for 3*. Plates if you are going above 3"

Buried in 80s tech Or maybe FAQ is the camry brake line i think that is OEM and 3" linger thn 80 stock line. Others have just remove line bracket, redrilled and lowered.

Sway bar drops are easy to fab up or avail separately.

That is really helpful, I’ll look into some more options and if I do go with the ome I’ll definetely call cruiser outfitters.

Just from my experience, I did the 2.5” OME and Ran the 30mm spacer in the front so it would sit level. After some measurements it took the 4” castor correction brackets to put me back in spec.

If you want to avoid the stink bug look you may want to think about the spacer.

It doesn’t come with brake lines or sway bar drop brackets. For what it’s worth I didn’t do either on both previous 80’s I owned and lifted. I probably should have but Just decided not to. Brake lines looked fine at full flex so I figured why mess with them. I’m not saying I went about it correctly, just worked for me.

The kits from both Slee and Cruiser outfitters have enough to get you lifted and ready for off road wheeling and are a good starting point.

As far as stink bug goes a lot can be alleviated by running heavy front springs and medium rear springs. If you go that route you’ll have to buy the components separately.

is there a reputable ARB/OME vendor in NC? I'd love to buy some stuff, but its all so heavy...hundreds of dollars in shipping is killer

not to mention, it would be nice to walk in a and put hand on stuff, and have a local vendor to take care of any issues

Not sure what limits or status of Fred Andersons ARB offerings. May be worth an inquiry as a club member, esp being in the rdu area.
