That sucks to hear about your AEM box troubles, was this something common? What I always find sort of ironic is that my favorite stand alone was an old school Apexi Power FC straight from Japan. Very simple and basic but it always worked, and worked well. The only real trouble was it didn't have any type of knock control capability, so it was pretty easy to blow up motors with it if you weren't careful.
Not that I could find, from the sounds of the tech at AEM I talked to it they had never seen it before. Hey gave me no explanation as to what happened other than there "was a board issue" After the "new" one came back dead I ripped a strip off the guy, it became clear they had seen the issue in a few other ECU's of that production run. The only thing I ran from AEM that worked was there Wideband O2. got to watch the sensors though they do not last long.
My car ran 10x smother and was much more drivable on the Vipec, I really liked working with it (I had one of the first V88's in North America). There no one running them at the time, they where the new guys. But we had it up and running on one night.
My friend that still does lots of custom wiring, ECU's and all sorts of race cars swears by Haltech now, fast to set up and get running good with no funny issues along the way. I have been looking at maybe using a Haltech Sprint 500 on my LX450 when I turbo as a piggy back fuel timing controller. My buddy did quite a few cars in OZ this way to get around there modifying laws.
