That sucks to hear about your AEM box troubles, was this something common? What I always find sort of ironic is that my favorite stand alone was an old school Apexi Power FC straight from Japan. Very simple and basic but it always worked, and worked well. The only real trouble was it didn't have any type of knock control capability, so it was pretty easy to blow up motors with it if you weren't careful.

Not that I could find, from the sounds of the tech at AEM I talked to it they had never seen it before. Hey gave me no explanation as to what happened other than there "was a board issue" After the "new" one came back dead I ripped a strip off the guy, it became clear they had seen the issue in a few other ECU's of that production run. The only thing I ran from AEM that worked was there Wideband O2. got to watch the sensors though they do not last long.

My car ran 10x smother and was much more drivable on the Vipec, I really liked working with it (I had one of the first V88's in North America). There no one running them at the time, they where the new guys. But we had it up and running on one night.

My friend that still does lots of custom wiring, ECU's and all sorts of race cars swears by Haltech now, fast to set up and get running good with no funny issues along the way. I have been looking at maybe using a Haltech Sprint 500 on my LX450 when I turbo as a piggy back fuel timing controller. My buddy did quite a few cars in OZ this way to get around there modifying laws.

Hey Guys.

First Post here so bare with me

Coming from down under, Aussie 80 series (3F, 1FZFE) dont come with OBDII and O2 sensors, using a rheostat to control AFR's. As such they haven't got the ability to "self tune"

Would one of these in conjunction with say a UK 1FZFE loom work (as they are RHD) ??

Regards

Marko

I'm going to try and get a little more work done on this tomorrow and possibly Sunday. But I'm at SEMA all next week, will continue the week after we get back from Vegas. The plan is to have a plug and play tuning solution for you guys by around the end of this year.

I caution against giving us a deadline like the end of the year, given the usual holidays and other stuff that comes up this time of the year. We're like bunch of kids and seem to hone in on dates all too much :D

What results would be expected from a stock 1FZFE engine when using a tunable system, how much more power or mpg?? IDK.

Marko, if someone could get me a service manual with wiring diagrams for the Aussie 1FZFE that you are working with I'm sure I can do up a plug and play harness for it as well. Once we have all the tuning worked out the plug and play harnesses should be fairly easy as long as I can get my hands on the wiring diagrams for that particular year/model of cruiser.

:bounce2: :bounce: :bounce2: :bounce: We'll do our best to keep it on time with this one. I'll continue to post updates as available in this thread.

It all depends on how it's tuned. The tune can be for more power, or better gas mileage, or a combination of both.

Rogee, Will see what i can do ;)

Also sent you a pm regarding that turbo kit too, and possibly one of your exhausts ;)

how that self " tune " work .?

Venezuelan FZJ80 at home does not have O2 sensors or OBDII .. and it's usually running rich ..

Tapage if you have a look in front of your air filter housing you will see what looks like a socket almost. It has two bolts holding it down. That's the AFR reostat. Now I have no idea about how to use it. I'm sure the Aussie fsm would have it mentioned somewhere but I find it easier just to change the loom and let the computer deal with it.

Trust me when I say it's bloody rich. 8mpg is the best I've gotten out of it.

thanks ! glad to see I'm not the only one in this boat .. weird it happen in Aus too .. I totally get in Venezuela coz gas there it's virtually free ..

Did you replace the hole loom and ECU to add O2 sensors .?

I had to purchase a loom either from a jdm FZJ80 or a UK FZJ80. This is because they are both RHD.

Should mean I can finally see better economy than 8mpg and a range of over 1800km with my fuel tank setup. (190l rear and 145l front with 4 20l jerry cans)

Preliminary plug-n-play kit is just about finished. Testing and tuning next week. Should have these plug-n-play kits available for sale within the next 30 days.

More info coming soon.

Looking forward to hearing more.

Do you have an idea what these will cost us yet?
:popcorn::beer:

Will be posting pricing, details, full install instructions, and start taking orders the end of next week.

I am no tuner, will you also be posting some dyno data?
