I saw the couplers .. but in a double thought I was about to said in my case that din't work that well huge pita split my exhaust .. but then realize you are using inox .. so you don't need to mest with rust and stuck ( due rust ) sections .. like mines ..
a heat shield for where the exhaust comes up behind the t/case, next to the front fuel tank and under the floor.
the holes are to let any mud, sand, grit out from between the 2 SS pipes.
the heat sheild for the front section...
another shot of the clearence.
the tail dump, center of the tire pointing slightly back to catch the air flow of the tire. this location also keeps mud and crap from being shoved up the pipe when backing up in the ... less than desired terrain.
looks good, your using v-groove clamps to join the sections it looks like, thats a good idea, I like those v-groove clamps, I can see it being more work to burn the flared ends on, but makes it alot more modular in terms of removal and access.
not much to post, am getting price for 125L SS water tank to mount underneath and some basic work done.
taking a few days to do another quick job to clear my head before going back at it.
I'm probably going to have to do something similar with my exhaust now that I've fitted my LR tank on my 60 Series. Would be much easier doing it with the body off!!! For the moment I just have a 2ft long dump pipe...
Loving your workmanship on this build - very envious of the workspace and access to tools. I'm sitting here pulling metal filings out of my hair and digging them out of my back after rolling around on the carport floor supporting the weight of the tank and trying to do up fasteners at the same time!!!
envious of the space? don't be, the shop is 30 ft X 20 ft. it is barely big enough for working on the troopie. to work on the body i have to move the chassis to the storage tent
but
next week we should be putting the body back on the chassis, i am SOOOO looking forward to that step.
Some of the tolerances look tight... t-case to tanks, exhaust to frame. I can't tell from the pictures, but have you checked which way things will move when under torque/flex. I've fought with rollbar-exhaust-driveline torquing into other parts on my rig, creating very annoying noises.
Personally, I would be putting that flex pipe on the exhaust directly below the first down elbow. For all the torquing referred to above.
I just spent 60 hours riding to SnT in Ratpuke's beautiful HZJ77 and can attest to how nice this platform is. Everyone should covet thy neighbour's 70 series.
Peter,
the clearences are VERY tight and now that the water tank is going in it is one tight fit.
the exhaust is well mounted with good high quality rubber mounts and the connectors are supposed to be second to welding.
i will be taking it to the local gravel pit for twisting, hill climbing, side hilling to test it out. i hope it has a clean bill once i am done.
there is not enough room for the flex near the turbo, i looked at a 4" but the local exhaust guru said they don't have enough flex at that length. i wanted to keep the exhaust above the belly bars.
nice to see that you took an interest in the build.
