I am having the hardest time installing the cup that sits above the spring on the shifter.

Ideas?

Anyone wish to loan, sell, trade (my eBay store) or rent theirs or one like it that works......

Best,

Shane

Two flat blade screwdrivers, placed on opposite sides of the cup, where the 'flat' meets the 'curve' should do it Shane. All I've ever used.

channel locks

I think I used a large pair of channel locks--didnt squeeze on it just laid it on top and pushed down and turned it

a lot of things could be improvised i think

Make sure that you are turning the correct way to line up the slots. After a long day of re-installing a tranny sometimes the simplest things are overlooked...not that I have ever done something like this :D

Some great ideas......My problem is that I am nervous that I may slip and scratch something as it is installed and I have no room to climb in and tackle is like I did upon removal.

I have done it before, but this one is a bear.

We always use an old spider gear. Slide it down the shifter, teeth up, press and turn.

I ran that part number in Toyota's database, 11 bucks. Think it's the same?

You might as well lend it to me too......sorry Coolerman, I could not resist.:). If it's not yours to lend don't lend it out.

I use a pipe wrench. Teeth on the side works great for gripping the cup.

Works every time:beer:

I've used an old wooden clamp with the front ends clamped around the shifter and pointed down to the shifter base. It seems to give enough leverage to turn the base. hth, ty

1. Remove shifter ball
2. Poke hole in latex glove palm and pull it down so it sits on top of the cup
3. Take a box end wrench (around 30mm) and place the circular end over the glove
4. Push down and rotate the cup into place.

The glove provides friction and works like a champ. Let me know how it turns out.

peice of one inch square tubing cut about 1 1/4 inches long. Weld two handles to it, works pretty good. You can even grind out two sides of the box for a better fit.

:o Normally, I would not even consider suggesting that someone loan their :wrench: tools to someone else. I have lost several tools this way...

In this case however, AATLAS1X is a well known member here on MUD and would return it.

If he didn't, the loaner could always hire a voodoo priest to cause a flock of 99 buzzards to fly over the garage and miraculously have their constipation problem solved ...

... just as AATLAS1X pulled his latest, topless, restoration project out to admire it...

Lord, that vision hurts .... Sorry AATLAS1X

Ok, I have tried every way...............No luck. Remember everything is installed in the truck besides the trans service cover.
