It holds gas, it holds water, it holds a spare, but wait there more it holds a yeti 35!

Can we see a side shot of that setup?

Are the OEM brake/tailights obscured or just the camera angle?

Those cans look really high at first...BUT...that would let you use a large siphon and fill your tank extra quickly without even removing them. Plus...they're on your fill-side. Very cool.

I'm also 6"1' so height isn't an issue. Also, something is going below the can holder.

Semi-obscured. The auxiliary lights in the bumper will supplement any light loss.

Best I have. Receiver pin is not in or bolt set so it is not sitting perfectly level yet.

Looks good. Could you bend a metal strap to keep the cooler/gas cans from growing legs? Although I use a cable lock now that attaches to the cooler, through my gas can handles and through the attachment point on the hitch.

Something I've learned over the years; if someone wants to jack your s***, they'll jack your s*** regardless of security measures. It's a balancing act between personal inconvenience of the owner and extreme security from degenerates.

In this case, I'll only have the tray installed and loaded up when I'm out on a trip. Otherwise, the right arm will pretty much be empty for tooling around town.

I've been thinking about can security too... Would like to find a way to secure the caps, so that they can't be easily siphoned...

Are you rolling through Bosnia (any of those wacky Eastern Bloc countries) and/or Camden New Jersey often or something? :)

I can't think of a scenario where I'd have my cans loaded up, filled up, and unattended long enough for that to happen. Unless I'm camped and go for a hike, even then I usually have several thousand dollars in optical equipment in the rig they can bust a window and take. Or I'm passed out, ossified, drunk which is certainly within the realm of possibility.

Theft reduction (IMO) is all about delaying opportunists.
3 minutes vs. 3 seconds? If I can delay the thief for three minutes, I win.

Nothing is theft proof, but time is a perp's enemy.

No, but when on long road trips, or trips with wheeling on the other end...you make many stops for food, coffee, restroom, etc. Opportunists abound. If it only takes 3 seconds to steal?

I see your point.

I don't feel it's an issue for me, personally, when taking into consideration when I'd have the rack loaded and where I generally go. Worst case, I usually carry a grade 100 cargo chain (that I "found") in my recovery gear. Chain them up.

Ya, even a thick bicycle cable would be enough. Super quick & easy. Wouldn't stop guys siphoning, but I doubt many would do that.

I had $3K+ worth of stuff stolen out of my open garage door while I was in & out of the same garage. Good neighborhood...but one college kid driving down to see the nice view at the end of our street likely saw my bags...hopped out...hopped in and was GONE in about 12 seconds. All I needed to do was slow him down....but live and learn. ;)

But back to the topic... THAT IS ONE SWEET BUILD YOU'RE DOING!!!!!! :hillbilly:

I only have a dual on my 100 but I just unpin it and pop it in the back.. Go do whatever and reinstall and go about my way. I use the MasterLock Python cable locks most of the time and that alone deters most around here.

I figure if someone wants to siphon $13 worth of gas they clearly need it more than I do :)

I've been theif'd three times, two was in eastern Europe (again in the bloc) and in shady Ogden Utah.

Either way, thanks! :)

I was in Yellowstone last summer and came back to my truck to find someone had pulled the pin on my hitch haul.

I think I must have interrupted them because everything was still there.

I just don't want my cooler and gas cans to walk off

I sit in front of a computer and endure lots of meetings for my stuff, I'd like to keep it.

I use a master lock on my hitch (like this Amazon.com: Master Lock 2866DATSC Swivel Head Receiver Lock, Chrome: Automotive) so that someone can't pop the $200 WD hitch off, and a separate long shackle master lock on the trailer coupler. The latter helps ensures the tongue doesn't pop loose when driving, and I lock it when I'm detached so someone can't steal my trailer. It's not like it's not insured, but I'd rather not have to replace my stuff too.

If I had a yeti and gas cans on the back of my truck I'd at least use a bicycle cable lock with it. When I eventually get a rear bumper I'll probably poll the group about how to secure the spare since occasionally there's a rash of spare tire theft in the city. Like Markuson I realize I won't stop a determined thief but I'm really just looking to make others more attractive targets than me.
