Trail Tailor Hidden Winch Mount and Ironman 12k winch install question? (1 Viewer)

Has anyone installed a 12k Ironman winch on a TT hidden winch mount? I was just chatting with a rep from my preferred off-road install shop and he questioned whether an extended harness is needed for this particular winch, given that TT's product page says this: PLEASE NOTE: Your winch controller will need to be relocated - either through extending the winch harnesses or by relocating controller within existing harness lengths.

Does anyone have experience with these products combined, or know enough about this kind of winch + the TT mount + the 200 to tell me whether an extended harness is necessary, and if not, what a good mounting point is for controller?

When I ordered my Ironman winch a couple years ago they had a ‘small box’ kit. It comes with a smaller control box, second wireless unit etc. same price as I recall. The small control box easily fits between the grill and radiator. A couple little metal brackets or a nest of cable ties can sort mounting.
I don’t see it on the site now, maybe ask them about that? The normal box would probably still fit, but it is quite a bit larger. Maybe make a mockup and see what the options are?

Trail Tailor looks like they have some nice stuff. But I would say they should probably work on a different logo because their current one looks a little too much like a swastika.

I used the Trail Tailor hidden winch mount with a Badlands 12klb winch and elected to extend the winch harness up into the engine bay. I mounted the control box on the Slee accessory tray that puts it on the passenger side rear engine bay. It was a little bit of a PITA in that I had to buy some tools to make battery cables that ran from the winch to the control box and then from the control box to the battery. But it wasn't overly complicated and I am very glad to have easy access to the control box at its current location. Easy to turn it on/off and I can plug in directly to it if the wireless remote dies on me. Everything still works as it should 3 years later with no adjustments needed. Your winch set up is likely very similar in that the stock cables won't be long enough to do this without fabricating new longer ones. Let me know if you want further details.
