Those Frankentrucks seal it! The only Toyota bed going on Patty is an 84-88; either 4wd or 2wd. Opening up the wheel wells won't be too much work... I mean for the body guys. I'll just have write a bigger check ;)

Thank dog! I was getting set to drive down there and slap you! I know it’s a frustrating search for a bed from that era, but the 3rd Gen beds on 2nd gen trucks is not something I can forgive. Maybe, just maybe on a dedicated wheeler that is going to be beat on, but not on a 100% perfect resto like you are doing! In my not so humble opinion, you need to do the era correct bed (doesn’t matter if it’s a 2wd modded or which 4wd) or go the “ute route” and do a high spec tray. Your truck is too nice to turn back now!

As a side note, I used front fenders from the 4wd to weld sections in to my 4Runner rear to repair rust. Your body guys could do the same thing to make the 4wd wheel openings. It’s definitely a bit of work, but far easier to start with something that is 80% there, than from scratch.

And for what it’s worth, I think 3rd Gen beds are a better fit on a 1st Gen from a looks perspective. I still think it’s a better deal to get an era correct bed or do a nice tray/flat deck. I saw a 2nd Gen with a GMC Sonoma bed on it... Gack!!

@joseywales - I had to explain to my wife why I was laughing (phone in hand)! I'm with you - NO way a mismatched bed is landing behind Patty's cab. On paper, they "fit". But they do look like $%*#. It'll be a correct generation bed or a custom tray back... or both ;-)

I love that some/lots of the 2wd xtra cabs got 4wd beds. Those really are the only trucks being parted out. There's hope.

hows it going, hope someone is around to help, i have a 85 toyota pickup extended cab 4x4, and just seeing if a 1980 pickup bed 6' would fit on it. thanks for your time

Body lines are off too.
