I decided the Weber ran like crap at mid range so I’d find an Aisin stock carburetor to rebuild.
@G00SE at Classic Cruisers hooked me up with 2 rebuildable 22r carbs shipped out qu

I was about to ask if you had a Weber or Aisin. Glad to see you are going back to stock.

the progressive webers are such trash.
i imagine a true 2bbl would actually rip

I was about to ask if you had a Weber or Aisin. Glad to see you are going back to stock.
So… that’s exactly what I thought! So I rebuild the Aisin with all new parts and followed the guidelines to a T, I adjusted the float, and
Sealed it all up. I cleaned up a spare stock insulator mount and installed everything. I had to plug all the vacuum hoses except vacuum advance from the dizzy. This rebuilt 22R is completely de-smogged so I’ll go from there.

I bought an air filter kit from LCE with an adapter for a 22R Aisin carb to an aftermarket
round air cleaner housing. I cranked it up and set the idle adj. it sounded good so i test drove it.
At stops the RPM’s were @1500, I adjusted the idle down and it would surge and barely run. I went in circles with this and did more research. It seems the Aisin needs some emissions to run good, I don’t have what I need so I decided to try and rebuild the Weber 36/38. Bought a kit from Redline, rebuilt and installed and it runs much better! Cold starts and perfect idle are still an issue sometimes.
I installed LCE’s spiral adapter because the old adapter plate sucked and I wanted more
Bling or some un-rational decision.

search over on pirate for stock carb info.
a lot of guys had good luck after some tinkering

When I was replacing the b-pillar exterior vents I noticed the flapper was ripped or chewed so I cut a few pieces of rubber from scrap pond liner and fit it to the vent housing and stapled it on. Good as new! Reinstalled in b-pillar.

I have a handful of my family’s Toyota 4x4s
That I’m juggling at any giving moment. I have been taking short trips in the pickup to help break in the motor with Amsoil zinc for break in. I’m back on the mini and made plans to drive up 5 hours to Classic Cruisers yard to pickup some used 33x12.5x15 mud tires on black steelies and a tailgate that was offered last year.
Tuned up the carb and checked air pressure.
Loaded up to hit the road!

Unfortunately, for me, I showed up on a Sunday and no one was at Classic Cruisers except Nate who was frigging awesome helping me switch the tires!

I got shafted on the era correct white center latch tailgate and strung out all day with texts and ghosted at the end even after I offered $500 for a tailgate that was supposed to be given to me. We’re only as good as our word people. I kicked myself for not taking it immediately when it was originally offered!

Anyways, two out of three ain’t bad I scored a pile of mostly junk gear driven transfer cases and got an earlier tailgate with side latches from the yard that I had to use a ratchet strap to secure it closed on the way home with a load of tires, transfer cases and a bench seat I pulled from the trash out of curiosity and discovered a nice brown seat under the nasty seat cover!

The truck was hesitating on the way up, so I opened the carb and found a small piece of rubber in one of the jets, I also switched out the fuel filter that was clogged with light brown silt or corrosion.

I drove back home in the dark for 5 hours without issue and got about half the gas mileage I did on the drive up with 31’s.

I dropped the fuel tank and inspected inside with a flashlight. Not to bad, I was pleased.
Flushed it out and re-installed into the truck.

Re-torqued the head bolts around 1000 IIRC miles on fresh rebuilt 22R.

Splurged on a case of oil filters from Mr T at 10% off. fits my 22r, my 3.0 3vz, and my sons 3.4 5vz engine, so they will get used up!

My wife and I went to our neighbors party and drove the mini truck and it was an instant conversation piece. This sassy little blonde chick started checking out the truck and talkin a bunch of s*** about the “pink” parts and my potential names for the mini! “Touch up paint”,
“Moxy”, “Minion” all got laughs so I asked her
“Prospector” “No tach”(not an SR5) yadda, yadda!
I turned to my neighbor and asked” where did you find this girl?” And he said “she’s my best friend.” we all laugh while drinking beer out of Dixie cups.

A few minutes later, while I’m re-filling my beer from the keg sassy chick walks up and starts innocently and more shy than before flirting with me while my awesome wife @Mesa Woman is mingling with others observing me
Chatting.
I ask sassy what her name is and while blushing says “Clementine”!

Later when I tell my wife about her she says
“We should name the mini that” I had the same thought so that’s what we did!
SWEET CLEMENTINE, the prospectors wife!

Ya, what he said. I run the D3 on everything, including my 2FE.

I can't believe someone threw that bench seat in the dumpster. Nice save!
Me ether! It had one of those cloth striped seat covers that were popular in the 80s covered in dirt.
The PO of Classic Cruisers delt with pickups also, Brandon Bonneville the new owner has said to me personally take that pickup s*** or it’s going in the dumpster! While other parts are hoarded by their mechanic Jesse! He has 3 tailgates but refuses to sell one to me even after he said brandon gave it to him and he would give it to me! All the t/c on the ground he said take em, there worthless to me.(i sold 1 for 300$) I did 3 days of wrenching stripping cruisers, 1 or 2x a year, so I earned all the parts for sure!

Another name we joked about was
“Tube sock” when we found a pair in the b-pillar stuffed in to block the vent! Prolly vintage
Socks from the 80s! (Yes I washed em!)🤣

Fred Williams on "Dirt Every Day" has a Jeep named Tube Sock so you saved yourself some litigation there. :p

My thoughts exactly, may as well named it
“CLAMPY”! Ha ha!🤪

The wife and I loaded up “Clementine” with gear and goodies, checked fluids and tire pressure, double checked our list, said bye to our sons and hit the road nice and early!

Heading north to Pagosa Springs we crossed the Colorado border and the majestic San Juan mountains dominated the skyline with massive granite 13 and 14k ft peaks!
Driving west thru Durango and stopping for rest in Cortez CO. @CheyenneTrucker ‘s
place. The pickup was doing great! Although
Re-gearing for large tires will be a great upgrade for road trips in the future! Clementine
got to shack up in a real garage for the first time in over 20 years!

Dennis and Ellen are wonderful hosts who fed us a great meal and offered a clean, cozy spare bedroom!
In the morning after breakfast we loaded up,
and D+E towed their built FJ40 as we convoyed up the pass thru Stoner into Montrose, then Ouray (your ray) to the KOA for
SOLID AXLE SUMMIT 7!

We set camp and began catching up with old friends as the Land Cruisers rolled in by the Dozens!
