Was just pointed to this thread from long-time Mudder and thread starter, @JohnnyC .

The first pic below is a page from the Toyota 20-year Anniversary book published in 1958. Toward the top of the page there is a table that shows production numbers. I translated the table into the chart below the picture. Check out the low production numbers.

The paragraph at the top of the page gives an indication of what the sub-types mean (R, T, & J), but I'm having a hard time translating it.

The article is very interesting pretty much confirms the old 'J' stands for Jeep controversy. The translators are funny, almost as good as reading the old Toyota manuals..........................what's the bit about Rovers and Pirates??? :D

Not the same individual manual as in the picture above, but here she is. I wouldn't be surprised if they exist in about the same number as the vehicles themselves.

A little contribution to this thread. Caption as best as I could translate: "In January of last year, the first 10 Toyota Jeeps in the country were delivered to the Hiroshima Headquarters, and two more were added in November, making 12 Toyota Jeeps now active in maintaining public order."
The pages of course very old so the scan quality didn't really help with the picture quality. Still amazing. The first of their kind on duty for testing/work. :)

Interesting that they posed them in front of the Hiroshima Genbaku Dome at ground zero.
Very interesting, kinda spooky too! I walked around that area years ago and saw the remains of the dome, went to the museum etc. Very depressing.
It definitely makes for a more impactful photo. These vehicles were clearly something to be proud of to an industry that was decimated during the war. So maybe they went for that contrast. Who knows.
I am going to scan the whole periodical and upload it to the site so everyone can look it over. :)
