Do any of you guys that have done the BMW seat conversion know if they will work with this type of seat mounting surface? The area where my seat brackets mount are raised

Yeah, the brackets mount to factory nutted locations where the OEM seat mounts. That looks just like my 62's seat mounting area but I would confirm with TOR about your year FJ60.

I'll do a search and see what I can find. Thanks

Your mounting points look exactly like mine. The earlier models had higher mounting points on the body (81-85) which would make it hard to fit the BMW seats.

I made my brackets as low as possible and the seats sit at a very comfortable height (I'm 5'11)

They are procured from a 2012 BMW 3 series. The additional bolstering are compliments of being a sport seat. They are nearly new and no wear spots. Wicked happy with the transaction and the vast amount of inventory on hand. The center console is from 4wheelparts made by vdp ultimate locking console $94.99 plus free shipping.
which specific console did you get? for which model? when I looked all I saw was consoles for jeeps, or did you just adapt it to your 60?

Hey everyone so I ordered some e38/e39 rear seat heater switches from a autowrecker on ebay for cheap and i just got them in! The great thing about these switches is all heating control is within these little switches and they have a great little wheel on the front to adjust heat, not just hard settings. I finally think I figured out the wiring after a lot of digging through BMW forums. I will confirm soon when I hook up it up in the cruiser. Still not sure where to place the switches, maybe something clean in the center console. I have a fantastic aux relay block from @slcfj62 that I am already using for the power seats. There are some extra relays so the plan is to activate the relay with a ignition-hot 12v source, the run the hot relay wire to pin3 on the switch (wiring diagram says switch should get power from a power source with a 15amp fuse). Then from switch Pin 5 route the wire to Pin 25 under the seat. Pin 23 under the seat will connect to pin 2 on the switch to supply the negative thermal coefficient (NTC) signal. That signal is what I believe tells the switch when the seat is hot enough. Pin 1 on the switch connects to night illumination 12v source. I am not sure we need to connect Pin 6 to anything as the front seats heat both the seat bottom and seat back from pin 25. On the rear heated seats in an e38/e39 there seems to be an extra pin, hence the pin6 on these switches. Anyways, if I don't catch on fire due to poor wiring I will report back my success and confirm the wires are correct.

Great news!!! Let us know when you rig it up!
Just to clarify, what seats do you have, and what does our seat harness plug look like?

The seats I have are out of a 2000 328ic. I'll take pics of the connectors later. One issue I ran into was the BMW plug I have (the body side plug that plugs into the yellow under seat harness) is missing the contact terminals for the heater option. I am currently trying to track down the correct BMW electrical terminals that will work. I'll post up all the info when I get this figured out. I am getting a few different parts this next week so hopefully soon!

Late reply... It is annotated as a jeep console. Mounted it right on top of my heater assembly. 4 bolts and no issues since.

As promised, here are a few pictures of the installed seats. The brackets fit like they were a factory part. If anyone has any questions, feel free to PM me.

Man that looks good, Im digging that Natural Brown, I always liked that color interior in the BMWs. Now Im trying to determine if my OCD will allow me to go with the regular tan ones now that Ive seen how that Natural Brown matches the brown 60 interior. Thanks a lot.

Yup, I loved the Natural Brown color so much that I drove 3+ hours to get this set. It helped that they were in mint condition and came with the BMW chassis side pigtail to make the wiring easier. Absolutely love these seats, by far the best comfort upgrade I've made to the 60. Good luck!

Hilarious!...... You know you can also roll down the rear windows and then remove the cranks.............
You wanna make 'em really tough? Remove the doors, seats, seat belts and cut donuts in the snow.

Great thread. However, bums me out that the TorFab brackets are not compatible with earlier 60's. Would love this upgrade in my '84.

Has anyone seen (or done) these seats adapted to an early 60?

The tor fab brackets will work with 60 series sliders. The height on the passenger seat is the limiting factor, the rear heater in the 60's is under the passenger seat. Limiting the mounting height of the seat. When they moved to the 62 series the rear heater relocated to under the center console. Which allows the brackets to mount normally. Most who use these in FJ60's are doing the rear heater delete. I've got a set coming to me and (eventually) will be going to switch to a 88 FJ62 rear heater to relocate. TorFab has done this for customers in the past.

From the TorFab website:

"BMW seat brackets are now in full production and ready to be bolted in. These brackets will bolt into any 1986-1990 FJ60 and FJ62's. They are designed to bolt in any 1995 and newer BMW 3 series seats."

Unfortunately, the 1980-1985 60's have different mounting points for the front seats. My question was to anyone who has seen or done the BMW seats in one of these early year cruisers. Would love to know from their experience if this is a viable option. I confess I have not searched the issue, just posted the question during an episode of seat envy.

So are the mounting points different? OR is it only the rear heater that causes the issue? I would be willing to ditch the heater if the brackets will work with early 60's...

need to get info from the source.....on the information posted it clearly states the year range of the vehicle. Must be floor pan differences otherwise. rear heater has to be removed from the 60 series that do fall in the range of the product's application, which is also noted by the vendor. I removed my rear heater which is a non issue for me and the brackets were a bolt in solution. The only issue I had was dealing with the toyota OEM bolts that mount the stock seats to the floor pan, some of those apparently had corroded a little bit over time, in any case this is a great product for the year range and model the brackets are for made for.
