Just finishing up the complete rebuild and conversion of my front axle to disk brakes on my 1971 FJ40. I am at the point of replacing the tie rod and relay rod ends, repainting the rods and also wanted to replace the clamps and associated hardware since they were rusty and the threads on the bolts were worn out. I have so far been unable to find the right bolt for the tie rod clamp.

Looking at various Toyota parts sites (Partsouq seems to have the best diagrams and part number references) the original bolt for the tie rod clamp bolt was 91111-41040 but it has been replaced/substituted by 91111-51040 so that is what I ordered. When the parts came in from ToyotPartsDeal the bolt was 5mm shorter than the old rusty OEM tie rod clamp bolt. The new bolt was in fact the same length as the bolt for the smaller diameter relay rod clamp. For reference the OEM tierod clamp bolt is a M10x1.25 45mm long, the OEM relay rod clamp bolt is M10x1.25 40mm long

I have searched this forum up and down and have been unable figure out if ToyotaParts Direct sent the wrong bolt or if indeed the substituted bolt part number 91111-51040 is indeed the wrong length . If anyone knows the answer to my dilema or can point me to the correct bolt for the tie rod clamp. I know this is a small picky detail but for some reason I cant let this one go.

The last two digits of the part number is the length of the bolt (from tip to base of the hex head) in millimeters.

Do you have OEM clamps on the tie rod? The parts List shows identical bolts for all three of the rods, even though they are different diameters.

Good tip on the length of the bolt being the last 2 digits

I assume they are the OEM clamps and bolts (owned the FJ since 1993 and never changed them out)
The old bolts look OEM, they have the small JIS heads. I tried the new bolt in the old clamp and it just fits through and would have only 3 threads of engagement without the lock washer. I have new OEM clamps that the bolt fits through with only 1 thread showing.

I put stainless steel allen head bolts in mine back in the 80's. Not sure if they were metric or a better fit using standard American stuff

So thanks to the tip from 73FJ40, on bolt length being the last 2 digits, I did a little creative searching using modified part numbers and found this parts diagram on amayama.com . It shows the the relay rod clamp bolt as 91111-41040 and the relay rod clamp bolt as 91111-51045 the substitute part number for that bolt is 91112-61045. I went back and checked the Partsouq site again and confirmed that for a 71 FJ40 they only show the 40mm bolt but for later model (1980) they do show the 40mm bolt for the relay rod clamp and the 45mm bolt for the tie rod clamp bolt .

For future reference should anyone else go down this particular dead end here are the the bolts clamps

Tie rod clamp bolt 91111-41045 (Substitution 91112-61045)
Relay and drag link rod clamp bolt 91111-41040 (Substitution 91111-51040)

The original rusty bolts were 45mm long and fit perfectly so I'm certain the -51045 bolts will be correct. I will verify after I pick up the new bolts. Thanks again for the part number tip for bolts that the last two digits are the length.

Finally got all the bolts and put it all back together. The 45mm bolts were the exact right length
