Had to put the 45 to work today! My trusty mule conked out in the creek, and a big storm is headed our way. ( it can rise 15 feet! so must come out soon! A little winching and she is safe!!

We get our water from the creek! I have a foot valve attached to a pulley and hand crank winch to lift it out when it storms!( it goes down a 30 foot cliff) well the cable broke and the valve and hoses were getting dragged down stream! I can usually take the mule down the creek a ways to investigate, but it was a little too deep! I just fixed it right as it began to pour rain!! Looks like you will be getting some snow this weekend!!

Finally got around to swapping my 39.5 boggers from 6 lug rims to 8 lug!! What a pain in the ass to manually swap these!! Big tire irons and my big 16 year old helped( he is 6’3”!!) we got it done, and a new attitude!!! Reminds me of the old green goblin, which these came from!!

Another fun rubicon 2024 trip! 6 day trip filled with the usual crazy, dangerous, fun, drama filled trip!! Day one, my buddy broke a birfield!! We came in this year on the tahoma side, so we were coming in down caddilac hill. Luckily he had an arb, so he 3 wheeled it down to the springs. Ran into to Tony Twiddy and he had a spare! So we swapped it out and made a day trip to buck island( we stayed at the springs for 3 days( nice to just hangout and relax. My son and I were eating lunch on the bank of buck island and I look down and once again a rattlesnake just 2 feet from us!! What a beauty! We returned to the springs and Tony gave us a 20 minute history tour. I have been going to the rubicon for 30 years and never knew so much history, indian bowls in the granite, 3 different natural springs, an old cabin built into the rock from the 40’s and many more stories! On our way out we got almost to blackwood canyon when once again my buddy lost steering!!! He broke his high steer arm( welded homemade 30 years ago.) Sooo lucky my other friend brought a 24 v spool gun welder!! We were able ti weld it and we got home yesterday without anymore drama.. my son ( now licensed drove the 45 up to tahoe(4hrs) drove 95% of the trail, then drove home! First time on the freeway with the 45 and he did great!! Yes I was a little nervous, but he is showing me alot of confidence behind the wheel. I think he has passed rock crawling class! Only negative is I dont get much seat time anymore!!

The solution to your seat time problem is 2 rigs! Great photos, looks like a good time had by all even with the mechanical issues. The 2' from a rattler in shorts and flip flops situation is a bit unnerving! Thankful to not have seen a rattler on my trip to the Rubicon many years ago.

My son and I just built it the last few months for his first ride! 74 gmc stepside, was a 6 cylinder/3 on the tree!, now bbc 396/tremec 5 spd! 4/6 drop, 15x10 rally wheels! Not sure its the safest/ fuel efficient ride for a 17 year old, but he doesn’t have the best most practical father to say no, you cant have a hot rod!! It is a hoot to drive!
