I figured there might be members that would enjoy reading about someone elses completely hacked up 80 but were put off by the title.

On the other hand, there were probably more disappointed folks looking for cupholders...

Well, I finished enough to go wheeling. She did great. There was a brand new super charged JK built for SEMA with us on 37s and we did all the same obstacles. He was probably a little more comfortable though...

Dunno how to post a video from facebook. I'll get some pics eventually.

Pulling her out of the shop to load up and go wheeling. Spray paint isn't even dry.

Plywood deck and fenders to keep me from taking a rock through the back of the head.

Lookin' awesome. Have fun wheeling.

The wire tied tail lights cracked me up.

Unfortunately, that's going to change soon. I'm due for an inspection. I don't KNOW, but I would imagine zip-tied tail lights are frowned upon.

I have a rolled rig that I am swapping the roof from a parts rig (ideally needs to be 4-seasons for the wife and kiddos). Did you brace the inside of the pillars, or just weld the outer sheet metal with a butt weld?

You're thread is awesome! And totally giving me ideas on how I am going to build mine- I keep changing plans, especially after seeing yours, but now I'm leaning towards a 4 door with p/u bed or stubby flatbed

I just butt welded the pillars together and didn't worry about the folds inside. I will probably go back and add plates over the areas I butt welded just to make sure everything is held together. The long term goal is to have a cage up front so the structure of the pillars won't matter so much.

There was a dude in the hardcore section that bobbed an 80 and left 4 doors and a truck bed. Looked great. Good luck and feel free to ask any questions.

Bobbing an 80 series

Little update. I bought some samurai tail lights and a samurai bumper. Cut the samurai bumper down and stuffed it between the bed/hitch/frame. License plate and plate light will mount nicely in the center.

best new addition, you need is armrests on the doors. VERY comfortable.

Cutting and welding and grinding and stuff.

Slowly but surely filling in open spots. Can is only open in the back now and I've got the majority of the metal cut to skin the bed. Trying to decide whether or not to make the floor removable.

A mall crawler isn't complete without a yeti sticker.
I need to order one. Also one of those "built not bought" stickers just so all doubts are removed since my rig looks so symmetric and precise
