Here are a couple pics for ya of my recent progress. The only issue I had with the headers was the lower half-moon ears on my intake manifold would not clear the header and my intake manifold was about one washer thickness shallower than the flange on th header...hmm...what is about the thickness of one washer...a washer!

I cut off just a bit of the intake manifold bolt hole ears after reading a post from MarkA and also seeing that I had two spare intake manifolds that I could use if needed. I also didn't want to mess up the pretty ceramic coating on the headers. I then cut some washers in half, applied a little JB Weld to hold them in place and it all bolted up great!

My next project that I need to complete (well two projects) before the UP Overland trip is to install sound deadening (QuietCrap) and rear storage/sleeping platform. I hope to get a bit of this done this weekend.

I have the QuietCrap on the way and a general idea planned for the sleeping platform. It is going to be very simple. Basically a raised platform with just enough room to slide several 'Rubbermaid' tubs underneath. I'll install a good layer of QuietCrap on all of the floors but do I need to install some sort of protective layer (thin wood, plastic, etc) on top of the QuietCrap to keep it from being torn up by repeatedly sliding tubs and other gear across it?

I'll let Mark (mmw68) answer that one.

I chose Quiet Crap b/c it was less expensive than Second Skin and other 'high end' products. It has good reviews on MUD, comes from a MUD vendor, and should perform better than asphalt roof repair materials.

I wanted to really quiet down the interior noise level on my Pig but not break the bank, and also didn't want any type of material that would hold water since this Pig doesn't have new weatherstripping and water does get inside during heavy rains.

I do not see the Quiet Crap in vendor section?

I would like to see how this turns out and how good the "QuietCrap" is. I am wanting to put it in my piggie, but would like you to be my guinea pig. ;) I would be running it from firewall to tailgate and on the roof. It needs to work well as I will be running a cummins and they are wicked loud, and my pig is already a tin can that echos sounds.

Mine is crazy loud too!!! And I'm planning that crazy 12 day + road trip with the :princess: so I really need to quieten her (the truck) down!!!

I'm going to cover the fire wall as best I can from inside the cab, the entire floor, roof and inside of doors. I hope to put a little underneath the hood and double-up on the tranny hump and under the front seats if I have enough left. I did purchase 100 sqft worth so hopefully I'll get most of it covered.

I've been thinking about what to do to the roof after I install the QuietCrap. I'm not going to put a headliner back in b/c I don't want to replace my window rubber. Any ideas???

So I am in the same boat. I really dont like the idea of having to pull all my windows to put in a new head liner. So what I was planning on doing was making a fiberglass "cap" that would a fix to the roof much like the door panels attach to the doors. putting those little tabs all along the front windshield, then down each roof support and along the sides. it could also be supported by the grab handles. Once it it all made up and the proper form so it flows nicely into the A, B, C and D pillars I was going to cover it with a very thin foam material then attach a cloth or leather to that.

I want to see that when its finished! I have no idea what I'm going to do.

I hooked up the throttle linkage and choke on my carb and after the fuel was pumped back up to the carb she started right up...and then died...then started right back up...then died...lather, rinse, repeat. She immediately started and would run if I kept the choke pulled out to keep the RPMs up to 1800 or so. If they dropped to around 1000 she would immediately die. Time to do some searching but feel free to tell me what's wrong if you know.

I'm running straight headers right now and I was hoping to drive her down to the local exhaust shop to have an exhaust installed today but that'll have to wait.

My batter was pretty weak so I'm going to let it charge before I crank her anymore.

I don't have the typical idle solenoid but I do have a little wire that comes out the passenger side of the carb and it wasn't plugged in. One quick snap and she idles quite nicely. I didn't get a chance to drive her b/c the muffler shop is closed and my first stop will be to get a muffler...maybe next week.

Yoop - are you going on the UP Overland trip this year?

I don't know. They scheduled it for a really bad time. I am scheduled to be overseas for the two weeks preceding that and then on call all that week, the 9th through the 15th. I had to wheel and deal to get those two weeks off from the call schedule and changing it again is nearly impossible. :bang:

I don't know that I have any options. When I'm on call I'm not supposed to be more than half an hour away. :frown:

:frown: Was hoping to see you there!

Thats a fuel shut off solinoid, its what I was refering too. Sorry if I wasnt clear. Love that chrome header. (or chrome looking header)

Gotcha - so I'm guessing I don't have an ICS. The header is a ceramic header from Downey. When I unpacked it I thought it was chrome and not ceramic too so I emailed Jim but he assured me it was ceramic.

Didn't get any done on the Pig yesterday but I did get to spend about four hours in the garage cleaning junk up and throwing out a ton of useless parts. I now should be able to have a functioning driveway again and a garage that I can walk around in!

:bounce::bounce2:

Received my shipment of QuietCrap today. It is unpacked in the garage and awaiting a warmer day for install.

I tried to quickly bolt-in my OEM skidplate but had a problem. The bolt holes between the skid and the frame line up fine, and the drain holes for the tranny and tcase line up, but the skid hits the tranny and tcase and I need about a half inch more clearance. I briefly thought about using some spacers but that won't work due to strength issues. The skid is slightly dented but not that bad. Do I have the wrong skid? Can I use some thick 1" square stock as a spacer to drop the skid down?
