All hard gas lines blown out with help from the :princess:. Gas coming at you with 60 psi behind it is not fun...

All soft lines from gas pump back to tank are replaced. ~1/2 inch fuel return line replaced (needs to be hooked up to tank). Need to pick up some 1/4 inch fuel line for the tank vent from the fuel/vapor separator forward.

I'm having trouble drilling out the bolt I broke off on the fuel tank. I ground it flat with a flap disc, then punched a small indent hole, then started drilling. I offset the hole b/c I couldn't drill straight - well that bolt is hard as $hit. I'm trying to figure out my options since I don't think drilling it will work. Here is what I'm thinking...

1) spot weld edge of tank - don't like this idea too much but my other choices are slim
2) continue drilling broken bolt - don't think will work at an angle
3) weld nut onto side of mount where currnet bolt is broken, drill new hole in edge of tank and try to get new bolt to line up with new welded not - chance of success are slim
5) drill two small holes fore and aft of current bolt hole through edge of tank and put two self tapping screws into body - might just work
6) strap tank - don't see anywhere to do this
7) ????

What cha think?

Howdy! I would try a hi speed burr on an die grinder, or even a Dremel. Use a light touch so it doesn't burn up. I use the ball shaped ones the most, as they are easier to control and steer. Good Luck. John

Cut off the bracket and weld a new one on?

Gotta have this baby running by tomorrow morning 8 AM.

But...maybe...I can cut off the edge of the bracket where the nut is, weld on a piece of bent 16 ga sheet, drill a hole so you can manually insert a nut on the other side...I'll give that a look see...

I ended up going to the local hardware store and buying a new tap and drill bit - was able to get the bolt drilled and tapped - had to go 5/16" standard though but it worked!

It is "fun" installing a Pig tank by yourself.... wow....

Everything is together and bolted up. I'm going to wait until this evening to put fuel in the tank and try and crank her up. I hope it works!

Pig won't start.

I cranked it at least a dozen times - nuttin'.

Gas is not getting to the dual in-line filters I installed before the fuel pump.

I pulled the gas line going from the tank to the fuel pump and could feel suction from the fuel pump when the Pig was trying to crank. I tried to suck fuel into the fuel filters but couldn't make any progress. My fuel tank vent flowed freely back into the tank from the engine bay.

Any ideas? I blew all the lines out so I don't know how something could be blocked. I also put five gallons into the tank so it has fuel...

:mad::mad::mad:

If you have the feed and return lines swapped you wont get any fuel regardless. The return line doent run as deeply into the tank as the feed line. Try blowing back into the tank through the line that you have as the feed lind and listen for bubbles through the filler. If all you get is air and no bubbles swap the lines.

I can't really blow back at all through the filler line - which makes me think I have a blockage in the tank. I'm headed out to work on it now...

Still starved for fuel after running at highway speeds for awhile. Have to pump the gas hard to restart. Sizzling sound at card immediately afterwards. Small green 'thing' at front base of carb leaks fuel. Do I have a bad vacuum leak somewhere? I think I'm gonna put one of Trollholes carbs on and see if that fixes the problem.

I'd be very surprised if a JimC carb is causing the problem. Sounds like vapor lock or boiling off fuel. Do you have the right carb spacer/insulator? Carb fan work?

A booty fab heat shield between the manifold and carb and/or fuel lines might just solve the problem.

I don't think it is the carb either. I think I'm boiling off fuel. Manifolds are both newly ceramic coated. 2f is an 83. Carb is a 76. Insulator block and shield is from the 83 as the 76 didn't have one.

I'm stumped.

The Pig didn't cut off on me on the way home but I can usually keep it from cutting off if I run through the gears when I'm slowing down instead of just putting in the clutch. I popped the hood as soon as I got to my house and the fuel bowl was half full but I did hear a definite "tick tick tick" - guessing an exhaust leak???

I'm taking the Pig for about an hour drive in just a bit with a bunch of country highways with few stops. I'll get to test the 'fuel starvation' problem really well...

Drove a one hour trip two ways this weekend with some longer country highway stretches and couldn't get the Pig to die on me once. The closest it got was a stumble after a stop... I dunno...

Glad you found the problem with the tank. I'm glad it was something easy...

Little more info...

Bowl on carb was empty this afternoon. It has sat uncranked for just a bit less than two days.

Also found a leak on my exhaust manifold around the rear of the manifold. I'm going to remove the air cleaner to get better access with the starter fluid can.

Engine doesn't want to return to its idle of 650 after running sometimes. It will stay as high as 1000 rpm. It did it this afternoon so I left it running in my driveway and tried to make it return to idle by pushing the throttle linkage 'down/back' with little success. Trollhole was able to make it return this way earlier this year so we assumed my linkage was worn out. I'll have to look more into that when I get time. It didn't do it before the engine rebuild so I'm hoping something is just out of alignment.
