Jump the proper terminals with a paper clip and see what (if anything) happens on the cluster.

Yep. I’m going to walk away from it for a day.

My friend has a 62 dissy I’m going to go grab and do some exploring tomorrow.

Let the Kroil do its thing on the dissy and try to go back with a better attitude Monday.

Probably already figured it out but it is these to pull the codes:
Using a jumper wire, connect terminals TE1 and E1 of the check connector.

Put in a beautifully clean Dissy.


Nothing.


Put in a different AFM.

Nothing.

Confirmed fuel pump is on with a direct hot wire.

Nothing.

Tried to find a CEL jumping the terminals. No light must have been wired in.

Reset the computer by detaching the battery.

Nothing.


Put new fuses into all the ignition and EFI ports.

Nothing.

No idea how to test this and don’t have one here to steal.

Lost in space.

Nolen,
If that's an original Toyota relay, (it appears to be) the wiring diagram is printed on the side of the canister. You can see an example on the relay to the right in your photo. Pins 1 and 2 are the coil that closes the relay when energized, pins 2 and 3 are the function the relay is to activate. The relay in question may be completely different, but we can tell from the diagram.

If you pull the relay in question, I'd be happy to help translate the diagram for testing. Normally it's just a single jumper wire between the correct pins to perform the same function as the relay.

Make sure you're comfortable that you have the correct pins, it's easy to get them confused when looking at the relay end vs. the truck-side plug. (I've made mistakes myself) The diagram is drawn for the relay, as if you were looking at the four copper connections on the bottom of the relay. There's a bump on the plastic relay plug housing and a matching one on the truck-side plug, that's the notched side at the top of the diagram. Shoot another photo of the truck side plug if you'd like more help.

So if I have a powerprobe shouid I attach the ground plug to pin 2 and touch probe to pin 4 and send 12v into it? What will it do if I know it works?

I'm not familiar with the powerprobe tool. A plain jumper wire is all you need. Pin 2 or 4 will already have power (if the wiring is correct/functional). The other pin that does not have power will connect to the item the relay turns on. Normally some cheap crimp on male spade terminals is all you need, and a ~6" section of wire.

If you have no power at either terminal 2 or 4, then the problem lies elsewhere, and will take more testing to track it down.

Sorry, Nolen, I see how I confused you. Yes, those instructions are for plugging into the truck side connections, and will just bypass the relay completely for now. If they solve your problem, a new relay should fix it permanently.
I can describe how to test the relay if you'd like, but you'll need a meter/test light in addition to your powerprobe tool to do so.

This is #2 as I read it. It’s hot with the key off.

I jumped from it to the one just under it and it blew the 15a EFI fuse

Try from 2 to 4 based on these labels.
Be prepared with your fire extinguisher, etc, who knows what this truck has been through in it's past life(s)...

Yeah that did not pop the fuse but it also did not change things on the starting/fire so my issue is elsewhere.

I’m back to thinking it’s the igniter. I added a 3rd coil and that’s not it. I don’t have this 5 blade igniter. I will hunt one down

I just ordered a new non - OEM igniter and coil and expedited delivery to Wednesday via RockAuto.

I’m still throwing parts because thats all I know how to do at this point.

No, I did the Desmog too....Unplugged all the crap. Cleaned the dissy. Changed plugs. Wires. Cap. Rotor. Yanked the wires out of the AFM .... s*** man, I’ve done so much I am having to go back and undo it all it seems one piece at a time
