Man. No kidding. I have gone all over it. No spark though. I thought there was spark coming out of the coil when I turned the ignition on but we tried to verify that today and it seems there is no power coming out of the coil wire.

We used a grounded test probe and my spark tester and I think that’s where we are now.

Is the fusible link good?

Do you have a small black box like this under the hood somewhere? This is the diagnostic box. Flip open the lid and the ports are labelled. Another consideration, once you have it running, is that to properly set the timing you have to jumper two of these ports.

Yep. I jumped the proper terminals and I got no lights on the dash. I don’t think they put a CEL light on it. At least I had no lights

You might have to start pinning that out too... :(

I’m going to throw Parts at it for a while longer and once it’s all been replaced with new I’ll go there.

Cranking without starting a bazillion times....just saying what I'd be feeling if it were me :banghead:

I have 5 trucks here with a gear reduction starter. If it dies I’m covered

I probably missed it but how long has this Cruiser been in the USA?

I would offer some help/advise but I just walked in from a 14hr day and am so tired I can hardly hold this beer. 🙄

Cheers

have you verified distributor timing?

No because it’s not running. I put the clean dissy back where the other one was

I meant, have you verified that the distributor is on the correct tooth? I had a 3FE 80 in the shop the other day that I did a valve adjustment on (clearly hadn't been done in forever, super loose, 300k miles), got it all buttoned up and no start (also put in new plugs/wires/cap/rotor at same time). Noticed distributor was fairly new. Put it at TDCC and sure enough whoever had put the distributor in had it a tooth off and it had came in running fine, and after the valve adjustment it didn't. Weird story i know but something easy and free to check.

When Beno was in town he drove the OddBall and said I needed Ujoints because it was letting off vibrations when he let off the gas.

I ordered up some nice Ujoints from Kurt and went to pop off the driveshaft to discover it’s the pinion bearing and not the driveshaft.

Of course adding a good used third is the easy answer, but who likes easy?

One thing that these last few weeks of me stepping back into the 80 world tells me that no matter how cool I think my 80 is, it will never really be cool if it does not have at least one locker.

It can never be TRIPLE LOCKED so I can concede that I’ll never really be in the club.

Out this one goes to my friend Bob to install a Harrop locker that Beno has had squirreled away on his shelf.

By the way.....I had to wail in these axles to get the cone washers out. Terrible. I don’t know how people work on nice vehicles.
