I’ve actually got a pretty funny story regarding the Prado namesake.

One of my neighbors was a diplomat all over Africa and we were chatting about my GX. I mentioned that she must have ridden in a lot of Land Cruisers. She said she had. I mentioned that she likely remembers riding in a Land Cruiser Prado like my GX. She says… oh I remember those- of course- at the embassy we call those “the city car”…

Back in 2002, my soon-to-be-wife and I were vacationing down in OBX. We always stay in the northern beaches so we can take the dogs. I remember like it was yesterday trying to follow someone through a particularly soft and steep dune cut. They were driving an 80 series and I was in my QX4. They went through like it was nothing... I had to go down to the next cut. That brief moment sparked my desire to own a Land Cruiser and that Fall we bought an LX470 for my wife. And then my first 80 the following year when my Infiniti's lease was up. The rest is history.

My first "car" was a Dodge Rampage. What an amazing piece of machinery. 4 speed, AM radio, vinyl buckets and all the toque steer anyone could ever want.

I think it was an '83. It was totally rotted out by 1988.
