Wow, thats a lot of good info, i'll try to retain as much of it as i can! I have an old Midland MXT275 from a previous vehicle that i haven't wired into mine yet. I'm going to try and wire it up in my free time. I also ordered a baofeng UV-5g...
Electrical Tech Day: Saturday June 8

The class is typically a day long learning experience with lunch provided by the club. We have the classroom from 9...
OK, sorry for the delay, I had to wait for some family events to be finalized. Unfortunately, May is booked with family and other stuff (I know, that's not as important as an electrical class). Sorry.
The new date for the electrical class is...
Yep. What @Diff Kraken said. Gee, that chart looks really familiar. :geek:
The club has 12 "loaner" radios for events. I am not sure where they are living at the moment. Also, the batteries are starting to get old (like me) so they may not...
I used a Bluesea 3000 when I did something similar to my LX. I wanted a hard cutoff in the rare event of some issue while using it and also wasn’t sure if there were any ghost current draw concerns. Didn’t bother with a fuse because I left it...

I can only speak to my experience with Comeup wireless controller having used one for the last...
Any receiver can be vulnerable to RF (radio frequency) interference in a variety of ways. It might be interesting to do some experiments to see how susceptible winch receivers are to transmitters (CB, FRS, GMRS, MURS, HAM, cell phones) that are...
The other concern with remote control winches is interference. If someone close to the winch (winch’s receiver) transmits on a handheld or mobile radio there is the potential for the radio’s signal to interfere with the signal from the winch’s...
Yep. That will work. It just has to be able to handle the full load Amps of the winch.
Mount it close to the battery. The shorter the wire from the battery to the switch the lower the risk.
So, the danger is:
- The winch + wire rubs against a sharp piece of metal, the insulation wears away and the wire short circuits to ground & instant fire.
- You are involved in a minor fender bender and the winch + wire gets crushed, cuts...
Absolutely! That will be part of the class. 😉
We have the room from 9 to 5. You guys decide how long and when you want to be there and if you have any specific topics you want to cover.
