Phil -

Will they consider conversions on existing 80 series rigs, or only turn key rigs?

Cheers,

John

Low mileage 100 and 200 are the only ones that would be considered. They do 80 series but a very selective making them hard to find to meet there specs.

They did this 80 series for EXPO and easily sold. 1HTD w/5sp locked

One of my favorite that lives in Texas with the same spec as above.

Very nice Phil and thanks... I'm just kicking this around as you know I've been looking at a pop top for my 4.7L 80 series for some time, but this is interesting. Not sure I'm ready to sell the 4.7 to do a 200 Series Conversion, but wanted to ask if they were doing any 80's.

Appreciate you.

John

I thought there was one or two in New Mexico. Sackware (80?)? TAV (200?)?

IIRC the white 80 in that pic was the Sackware 80.. Teakwood on the side gave it away~ Read a nice article on that truck, beautiful rig.

Same 80 but renamed by the new owner

For the last week/1000miles this has been my house/wheeler/travel vehicle. I learned a ton about popups/cabins not only being an unbelievable experience. Full report coming. I predict Maltec trucks will be the most in demand expedition vehicle in the USA this time next year. One weekend and you are ready to sell your house.;)
Phil, did I pass you in Ridgway on Wednesday? Looked like this 200.

VW never left... they just won't sell them in the US.

VW will start marketing these rigs to the #VANLIFE crowd, that's the population that's spending the money.

As Phil has said for quite some time, a company that gets into the 80series pop-top market is doing it out of love for 80s, certainly not to make money.

No different for Christo focusing energy on the 200 build outs, that's where the money is. I suppose it's my hope that companies like Maltec and GoFastCampers will eventually have something for the 80, but I'm certainly not holding my breath.

There are rental companies on the west coast that rent minivans and full size vans with roof top tents on top, and storage on the back. Mainly for running up and down the coast. Saw quite a few near Monterey and Big Sur area.
