We are a 100 Series Family, our tow duties are carried out by a 16 Ram 3500 DRW, and we’ve had a handful of rigs over the years that this would be applicable to. I posted this poll-type thread on several of my Ram groups on FB; then realized interest may be more widespread throughout the larger comminity I’m part of. Keep in mind this was written for DRW guys, feel free to substitute your 17” wheel equip rig. Thanks.

Little bit of a poll here, who would be interested in a tire around the 36x10(10.5)x17, or maybe for better wear 36x9.5x17? Say an E rated ATX type tire, semi agressive between an AT and MT, minimal sidewall topography, kind of a clean looking traction tire for our 17x6 alcoas and steel wheels? The idea would be a tall, great wearing ATX that you can run w/out spacers. My inspiration for this is the STA Super Traxion 900-16 (pictured which is a 36.3x9x16), the popularity of the 255/80/17s and the single MT 255/85/17. IMHO a taller option w/out the need for a spacer would be ideal, especially for the 4.10 guys. What are your opinions? I’ve posed the question to a tire manufacturer I’ve worked with in the past who may be receptive to popular positive feedback. Thanks for your thoughts.

I like where you are going...tall thinner tires.

For my LX450, I went from 16" straight to 18" rims and a LT285/75R18 tire.

Why?
  1. The Super Duty Tremor stock tire size is LT285/75R18. It is a thinner tire than most 35" tires, and it should be readily available due to the large number of Ford Super Duty Tremors sold.
  2. There is a big FZJ80 brake kit that needs at least 17" rims for clearance, and not all 17" rims clear. 18" rims clear 100%.
Going over 35" presents issues on a LX450/FZJ80. IMHO, not worth it for the minor additional ground clearance.

I also have a L96 and a 6L90e transmission, which makes 4.10 with 35" tires a perfect combination. 4.10 is a very strong gear set..

based on what I’ve learned, the E range load rating becomes an issue the taller and narrower you go.
