Ja, hooked that solenoid up to the ignition. didn't seem to make too much of a difference buts that's probably because i didn't plug that leak

but if thats for the brake booster, then what is the vacuum port on the right side of the engine above the starter about 2 thirds up the block... sorry no pics of it right now

that would explain why when we cranked her the 44 casing became a bullet in itself :p

Port above the starter is for PCV, routes to valve cover * I think.

Don't sweat the little stuff, like the idle fuel solenoid and the vacuum leaks until it starts and runs.

Easy guide to first time start up:
1. Verify that your engine has oil pressure and that the rotor of the distributor is pointing to the #1 plug wire when the engine is at TDC.
2. Pour 20 ml or a tablespoon of gasoline into the carb air horn.
3. Crank the engine while rotating the distributor back and forth slowly until it fires.

4. If it does not fire, swap the plug wires on the cap that are opposite one another in case the distributor was installled 180 degrees out. Repeat step 2 and 3.

ok cool, thanks. to you, does it sound like the firing order is wrong? bc my father seems to think so, but when we checked the dis it all lined up. but maybe it is 180 out?

The firing order is something that is easily verified.

If it doesn't start and run right away after adjusting the timing, then it may be 180 out so you want to do step 4, which is swap plug wires on opposite sides of the cap. This will change the firing order by 180 degrees.

funny you should say this, bc it was earlier today that i decided to take a couple steps back and start from the ground up. so the tub is now off and im going through everything from the ground up, staring at brakes

port coming from side cover is to PCV inlet on manifold under carb...make sure ALL vacuum ports are hooked up or plugged...have you tried closing the choke all the way? battery has 12 volts and alt is hooked up? see Pin_heads #3 above...

if it all ran and the diz and wires weren't messed with, then keep trying...it is firing off, just not running...timing is a bit off and there are vacuum leaks...

A motor sitting for 1.5 years that was running when pulled out. Means most likely your carb is toast. Unless it was run dry of gas before pulling. Most likely you need to rebuild your carb. Don't dick with the dizzy if it was running before pulled out. Confirm you have oil pressure. I always yank the dizzy and prime it on engines that long. But for you that would lead to a whole nother two pages of post.

Carb carb carb. You want it to run get a squirt bottle and pour gas in the carb a little at a time.

Ok, thus was something I was planning on doing, taking out the carb and giving it a going over.

This is where I wish it were an injector pump and not a carb.

Is there a step by step, including pics, of stripping and putting back together an OEM carb?

It's currently off the manifold and sitting on my desk, waiting for me to take some brave pills and attempt it

I actually found it already. Google it with videos and mind, and the second I saw @Pin_Head 's videos, knew that was what I need.

Great video. Now all I need to do is get my hands on a carb rebuild kit. Font know where or how I will find one tho.

kurt at cruiseroutfitters has them in stock

@cruiseroutfit

Ok cool thanks.

I've got my local cruiser parts place. Will give them a try today first, bc, well shipping :P

If they don't have or can't get I will have to get in touch with Kurt.

I know I'm a little late to do so, but WELCOME to Mud. My time here doesn't always give me time to reply, so I go by spurts and feel it is better late than never.

I do have a question for you. Did you get any info about static timing for your motor? I know you have changed your direction a bit and don't need that info immediately. If you do need that info I can give you some of it. Static timing is a great way to get a new, or old motor, that has been sitting a while ready to start.

If you do need static timing info please post a pic of your distributor, and igniter if it has one.

thanks, i will take any and all info ;) if its not used today, it will be some time in the future

Heres the diz with the igniter in it

so i just picked this up today for the 2f, helping to solve the issue i have with the exhaust flange

any one know of any issues using another manifold other than your stock one?

Missing Vacuums on Carb

OK, so ive started dissasembling my carb as per @Pin_Head 's youtube videos... btw, awesome videos.

ok, so ive noticed that some things are different on my carb as compared to the one he uses, name ly missing vacuum ports and my EGR.

First up, shouldnt there be a vacuum port here for the power valve?

missing vac 1.webp

2nd, should there also not be a vacuum port and line that runs from the base of the carb, the EGR i think, to the other side of the engine block?

missing vac 2.webp

my EGR
messed up egr.webp

is this due to the 45 being from a later year (1983) ? or is my carb messed up??

Non-US carbs don't have an EGR connection or the vacuum lines required to run it. They also lack the external vacuum line for the power valve. It is operated directly off of manifold vacuum that it gets through the center bolt in the carb base; the one with the hole in it.

All this is normal for a non-US carb.

ok, phew :D

OIL LEAK...

ok, this engine has been sitting for a year and a half... no leaks, at all. we moved it across a workshop, loaded it on a trailer, drove 500kms with it on very bouncy roads, offloaded it, dropped it in the chassis, no leak. tried to start it, no leak. tired again, LEAK... and out of what looks like bolt hole in the oil filter housing...???

should there be a bolt in there? there are threads. but why would there be the need for a bolt anyway?
