do you fish jordan a lot? Ever catfish on purpose out there?

I do fish there quite a bit because I am so close and it's such a large lake to explore. I don't purposely fish for catfish. I'm a total novice when it comes to fishing, and find it just as enjoyable to avoid the boats and jetskis to watch the eagles, heron. Watched an eagle snatch a fish from the water maybe 20 ft ahead of my yak last time out, to me that was more exciting than catching a fish myself.

Today. Neuse River.

Anyone in the Triangle area want to educate me on freshwater lake fishing? I've been going out to Jordan and Harris lakes on the kayak, and I typically see the herons and eagles catch a lot more fish than I do. (Of course, I don't have a fishfinder so I just kind of guess where fish might be, and I seem to guess wrong 99% of the time.)

I'm not looking for free boat rides, just some tips, setups, techniques. Happy to fish from the bank as well.

Cheap setup but has done me well every time we go do Jordan, but I’ll toss a worm with a Marshmello and usually do alright catch some cats and largemouth that way, otherwise I have been pretty lucky with throwing a watermelon worm on a Texas rig along some points or if you can find some overhang, I think poppers p

Well-almost 10 years living by the water and it finally happened on rod and reel. Now I know why they call redfishing an addiction! We hooked about 12 nice ones including this tagged one. Few nice bonnet head sharks as well as a few black drum and trout!

Nice!!

Another good afternoon at the dock! Few whiting and a trout but enjoyed some time with George during fall break. Shrimp are also coming in now.

That's awesome Greg!

Advice needed, please. I've been to the Florida Keys many times but haven't fished there. I'm going to Key Largo this time and will have a kayak, surf gear, and light inshore gear. Other than just getting out on the water, does anybody have any info on something I absolutely must do while there, or must go to? I'll probably hire a flats guide one day and just might take the offshore plunge, too.

It'd be really great if any of you know somebody down there who wouldn't mind a fishing partner on his boat in exchange for gas money.

Going back out now, with a stop for shrimp, and will be perfectly happy if all I catch is "bait". Oh, and I'm adventurous enough to try eating a Blue Runner if I get one of the same size this trip. Seems they're usually under 1lb, and that doesn't leave much meat once you trim out the literal line. I'm a sucker for a fish the locals call 'trash'. It's been a 50/50 thing for me.

Is "blue runner" a bluefish? That nasty, stinky fish with teeth?

If you're near Marathon, try fishing at Vaca Cut. it has the strongest current between the gulf and atlantic. I caught some mangrove snapper there that were perfect eating size. Also, you have no idea what other species you'll catch.

I had a dude ride up on a bike, had a 4 ft barracuda cut into thirds, 10ft of chain, and about 100ft of 3/8" rope. the hook on the end of the chain was flippin huge. he put a third of the cuda on the hook, and threw it out into the cut. Obviously that type of gear required questions. he was a mate on a charter boat, couldnt afford cabletv, so he would take the waste fish from the charters and spend a few hours goin after big bull sharks. like 9-11ft bull sharks.

I stuck to the snapper, and gave what I caught to the non english speaking construction workers who were literally catching their dinner.
