The frame was a beach, solid to the holes.:hillbilly:

well, according to stickers on the roll cage, the truck did spend time at Mission Beach years ago; the PO also mentioned taking it to the beach in Mexico - that was before my time :meh:

any sand after that, I blame the holes for picking it up :hillbilly:

Can't blame the PO for that, I cleaned it out when the frame was boxed.:hillbilly:

Anyway,,, back to the transfer.

The idler shaft wasn't threaded, so, drilled, removed the hardened layer from the area and installed threads.

Got this kit from Dave/4+Plus/lcwizard. It is designed to go where the blue circle is. This frame has been boxed, making that spot less accessible, so we modified the plates and moved it forward to the furthest rearward inside frame hole. Looks good, is ~8" back, should provide plenty of room? Before we installed the tube, poured some paint in, taped up the ends and rotated it all around, so it is fully painted inside.:hillbilly:

I was just laying on my back today figuring out that I'd never be able to get my orion/nv4500 off with the current crossmember.
Thanks for posting the pics. Can you PM me any details about the kit?

Next up the shift shaft. The vacuum one is commonly referred to as too short, it's about the same length, just the way it's assembled is effectively shorter. If the spring is put on the other side of the fork, is about the correct length. But, the spring would interfere with the detent.

It also does not have the detent grooves, they would be easy to add. There is no provision to hold the boot, most of the FJ60s that we work on the boot has rotted off, so :meh:. But it would be easy to turn the shaft and install the groove?

There is no hole for the roll pin, could be drilled. But I would just tack weld the fork on, don't see any reason that it needs to be removable?

So, could use a vacuum shaft without too much drama.

In this case, had all of the correct parts, so stuck it together. The other hole had a switch in it, we have no use for it, a fill plug fit, so it's now plugged.

The hi-low shift lever is also wrong, in both length and clock, the shorter one is the vacuum. Add a new seal and install.

Cleaned and resealed the speedo drive.

Replaced the seal between the trans and transfer with a double lip type from a FJ62. The seals and stuff came from Georg, orangefj45.

The reason for the bore in the idler shaft, allows for the shaft to be pulled slightly out, incase the o-ring ever leaks, needs to be replaced.

Been eyeing this cover from a FJ60, looks like it's going to be just the ticket. Looks like it's going to allow the factory FJ60 shift boots to fit, while covering the butchered cover.:hillbilly:

the tranny cover looks perfect, indeed :D

At this point, the plan is to cut out a big hole in the tunnel cover, screw the FJ60 cover on, just like it was in the FJ60. If maintenance is needed to the top of the trans, removing this cover would be much easier?

It's amazing how well it fits. Will need some trimming to clear the gas tank and a bit of a challenge to get it sealed up in that area, but overall, good fit!

I don't see the problem with sealing it up - between a rubber gasket strip, hardware store foam and Eastman black guey putty that can be used to stuff the area, it's all gonna be under the sound proofing mat and carpet in the end anyway :D

Best to contact Dave, PM: lcwizard or http://www.4plusproducts.com/home.html It's not on his web site, but he makes them as needed. We are very happy with how it worked, good product.
